I have been watching this games development for some time, and have been very excited to try the game out. This weekend, I obviously got the chance. I played the hell out of the game the whole weekend, and was surprising IMPRESSED!!
Take a minute to pat yourselves on the back Devs, you done good, real good!
With that being said, I would like to list some problems I personally feel "should" be addressed, though I fully understand my one opinion is only so relevant. Please note I am attempting to communicate this as fairly and respectfully as possible.
The Maps:
1. They are BEAUTIFUL and well laid out. I appreciate the environmental hazards (even if they piss me off every once in awhile).
2. They feel a little too small. I honestly feel like there should be more objectives and more soldiers at multiple objectives.
3. The maps keep the action going non stop, but they also allow for careless actions because its so easy to traverse the objectives and re-spawn.
A. I honestly believe if it was harder to capture objectives, and harder to traverse, we would have less "run and gun" tactics.
B. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the **** out of the action, I just feel if its "too fast paced" it will allow for player burnout, which will dwindle the community away.
4. The varying heights of the maps felt awesome. It was cool to look down and see the battle, and prepare to defend.
A. This is an awesome feature, but because the maps are so small, it felt useless to me. It was beautiful to look down, but with larger maps, comes larger need for this feature.
B. With the varying heights, I would appreciate the ability to interact with ladders, like destroying & deploying them.
C. More ladders to access higher objectives would be nice too, stop campers from guarding them too easily.
Combat:
1. Nope nope nope, I can't form words for this.
2. Wait wait, something is coming to mind.....
3. PERFECT! DAMNIT IT ALL!
4. The combat was seriously everything I personally was hoping for. I really appreciated the combat. Im sure I could complain about something, but its too good.
5. All of the flaws of combat are easily overcome by the complexity and skill ceiling. Since my skills grew exponentially over the weekend, all my complaints vanished.
6. It would seem that balance is damn near perfect. I rekt, and was rekt by every class. The samuri stood out, but once I discovered how to play against them, I was fine.
7. KEEP DOING THAT! Keep the skill more effective than the balance. It was obvious that with time, practice, and understanding, skill is the key component.
Varying random mechanics that come to mind:
1. As you already know, I loved the combat. I would like to encourage you guys to keep it complex and crafty like it is. Don't reduce compexity in the future, add to it.
A. After the combat becomes "mastered" or well understood, it might not be complex enough to keep people interested for long durations. Adding complexities would help this.
2. Force us to engage in combat with the "minions" more. ITS SO FUN TO blast through them, and my favorite fights were all at the center objective when the armies clash.
A. I would prefer there be a larger incentive to fight alongside the minions. Fighting other players around them was awesome, but I wasn't sure the minions affected much.
3. Objective captures in my very personal and respectful opinion are the worst part of the game..for me.
A. Its really sad to battle over an objective in tense fights, and barely win, and then to lose that objective 3 seconds after you walk away.
B. I feel like this is an issue alot of games have today. Its most likely overwatchs fault, but regardless, make the objectives sticky and fulfilling to capture.
C. It would be really cool if objectives had arches, or little mini bosses you had to kill in order to capture. Just something that forced you to engage for 15 seconds versus 5.
4. MORE MINIONS! I think you should stick minions everywhere, they are awesome to fight with and against. Its so satisfying to pull an enemy into your army.
A. I touched on this, but I really think the minions are a strength in this game. Its not like dota where they are annoying or tedious. They are damn fun to fight with/against.
B. The animations in this made me hard the entire time I was playing. The minions allowed me to oodle over the animations and yielded decent experience. MORE!
C. The minions created these odd stale-mate moments where 2 players stared down 2 enemy players, but no one wanted to engage them in the army.......awesome.
D. I want the minions to be more threatening. There are alot of abilities that interact with the minions, but I never saw someone use them, nor did I really.
i. If the minions are tougher, feared, and helpful, people will use those abilities more often, and some "classes" with have strengths and weaknesses depending.
Last Random notes: This is too long already.
1. The music is so so so damn good. I'll be buying/spotifying the soundtrack for sure. /clap
2. The art style upon initial glances seemed ok, but as I payed more attention to detail, I quickly began to realize how amazing your artist are. Holy crap guys. /clap
3. Thank you for being creative, thank you for taking the chance, thank you for not copying another crappy blizzard/activison game.
4. This game is so fresh feeling, I stopped showering......................................... ..................................
Seriously well done guys.
I have some complaints about the game, but I don't feel they are relevant at this time. If I get more game time, i'll keep some notes. Until then, keep doing what your doing!
