I wanted to raise the issue that there are actually different ways of looking at the issue of stat customization. So far the discussion has centered around how stat customization worked within the alpha I will refer to the way it worked in the alpha as Stat Progression.
Stat Progression in alpha worked by acquiring gear with stat altering effects. You could then upgrade gear to make the stat alteration more pronounced. I, along with others, find the idea of Stat Progression something malicious because of how some players will be better stated because of either more play time or more real world currency spent on the game.
Stat Progression should not be bundled with the idea of stat customization because a different stat customization system may be implemented into the game. This difference was not reflected in the poll that was taken.* The poll merely asked if only cosmetic customization was desirable, it did not ask if stat customization should be tied to a progression system or not.

I will call the stat customization system I am thinking of: Free Stat Customization.
Free Stat Customization is a customization system that doesn’t rely on progression, and is not tied to “gear”. Instead this system would allow any player to be able to manipulate stats from the very beginning of the player experience (perhaps within certain restrictions will be implemented such as if X gets about a certain threshold then Y or Z must suffer a penalty). This customization system would alleviate the maliciousness of a pay to win scenario and mitigate long time player dominance by nullifying a stat advantage that would have been in place with a stat progression system.
Under this system gear would be cosmetic only and totally disconnected from the stat system.
I think stat customization needs to be discussed at a more refined level so that it is not merely Cosmetic Customization vs Stat Customization, rather stat customization systems need to be discussed.
I like the idea of stat customization, however I would worry about game balance. As long as stat customization can result in a balanced game I am for it, i definitely wouldn't mind regular rebalancing (like in Overwatch) in order to maintain balance.
I, for one, prefer the Free Stat Customization over the Stat Progression system utilized in the alpha.
Ubisoft,
Overall what a great game! What a MAGNIFICENT start! For Honor is probably my MOST anticipated game! It's very tactical, by NO means a button masher, extremely innovative, and TRULY a one of a kind! Hopefully it becomes a trend setter because I am Exhausted of the saturated 1st person shooters in games nowadays. For years I would speak to friends about a game that plays like this! I love this game! Just a couple VERY IMPORTANT things I think will make this a game that will last years and NOT months.
First, the SIZE OF THE MAPS NEED TO BE LARGER in Dominion. The Knight map should be the smallest you guys have honestly. How small the maps are PROMOTE chaotic 2 & 3 on 1s! When that happens occasionally, that's one thing because that's a part of the mode, but it happens so much so that the point of the game not being a "button masher of sorts" is completely lost! It's stops becoming strategic! It looses it's essence within 5 rounds of the game mode. Either larger size or more holding points to disperse the numbers. Since this is the MAIN MODE, this is CRUCIAL.
Finally, I would say though it's fun, it could potentially get old if there's NOT a big variety of content. Dominion and the Battle styled modes are great, but may get really repetitive. Maybe Capture the Crown would add to it. DEFINITELY some sort of transport mission! Almost like Overwatch. You and your team have to protect an AI Queen or King of the board and escorting them from A to C! Make it in rounds! Also, definitely be more maps, Atleast 15 characters in total to pick from (5 per Faction even if 4 are later DLC), a lot more variety in character apparel colors and customizable gear and weapons, and MOST OF ALL in Game Modes! I know this was just an alpha, but I thought it be key to say this stuff!
Thanks for such a new style of play, Ubisoft!
