Firstly let me use this opportunity to thank you for selecting me for this closed alfa test. My friends also extend their gratitude.
FYI I tested the game on a PS4 using the standard controller.
As for the experience itself I do have to admite the gameplay was thrilling and immersive, one could even say it was addicting.
Combat was fluid and userfriendly, although one could say the right stick direction input was off with a slight delay when trying to consecutevely chance stances to block incoming chain attacks.
The maps seemed well made and thought out, with lots of environmental "traps" although I did feel that on certain maps like Overwatch players were exploiting the broken bridge in order to camp waiting for an enemy to pass under them so they could get a free via jump attack. I felt this kind of instakill was fair if the target had been previously thrown to a lower lvl of the map, but it was fair at all to be target by enemies you couldn't even predict let alone counter. I do think this deserves some more thought.
As for the heroes and classes, the community has been defending Orochi was OP. I don't feel he actually was in a 1vs1 battle. But as a full team of grouped up orochis they can indeed overpower any other hero by simply spamming multidirection light attacks taking the fun, experience and skill out of combat. It could be I required more ingame experience to counter this team comp when outnumbered but I really doubt it specially taking into consideration the low stamina expendeture of orochis light attacks. I think a 1 pick limitation per hero would resolve the issue and greatly improve MP gameplay and dynamic allowing for a focus in team composition and not on hero stacking as you see in Overwatch for exemple.
Customization is awesome and a very good incentive to play and learn every class and hero. Personally I disagree with players that are against the colour pallets. I would agree that the very end of each heroes skill tree a custom pallet option would be unlocked for each hero, but not before that.
I did feel the tutorial vídeos needed a lot of work. No pause rewind fastforward option. No step by step or practice option. And the moveset list should be available during loadings and in the hero selection screen.
As for game modes, duels obviously need to allow matches between friends in the same group, same goes for brawl. Dominion felt great and well thought out even the point scoring bonus as an incentive players to defend points instead of running around the map all together trying to overpower outnumbered enemies.
As for the networking issues, the ps4 system friends list would bug out a lot of times when it would state you had 0 friends online. The P2P connection in this day and age filled with trollers rage quitters griefers needs to be rethinked in my opinion, nowadays you just can't have players experience depend on the players themselves. In this alfa test I had a lot of issues with players obviously quitting mid game in every game mode because they were losing or underperforming. Or if this system is to be implemented in the full release, huge penalties need to be applied, the deterent needs to be really efective otherwise most games will have host migrations and error messages pop up as seen in this test.
Overall the game exceeded my expectations. All my friends shared my opinion. And I would definetely recommend it to anyone based on what I experienced so far.
This goes without saying but I would be very interested in being a part of any upcoming test or trial prior to the release of the game.
Cheers and thank you again
