From a hardcore Warden player I think that the Warden is pretty well rounded already. I get why people want more moves with him. But to be honest the beauty of the Warden to me isn't of course his movesets it's all the way you can combine these moves into something spectacularly good. They all work together so well, much better than some other characters who it feels like they can't combine anything at all.
When I first had a look at his moveset list in the technical test I was disappointed to see it was the smallest. But boy does it feel bigger than that once you start playing.
This is exactly it. To be honest, I haven't played enough of the other classes to know how well the Warden can chain their combos together compared to others but I think the beauty of the hero is that he can do just that.Originally Posted by Muppetlords Go to original post
That's exactly what I mean too. The Warden have a few, simple moves but he uses them more effectively than the many, complicated combos of the other classes. As I said, the strenght of the Warden lies in it's simplicity.Originally Posted by Muppetlords Go to original post
I want more moves for all of the characters though. The game doesn't give you the tools to create your own playstyle right now. Everyone who plays warden plays the same style of warden. Everyone who plays orochi plays the same style of orochi. You're never caught off guard by someone who comes at you with a completely different type of fighting technique than someone else. And that will get boring quickly. If you notice it within a couple of days of an alpha, imagine how pronounced it's going to be after a week of the full game.
You don't get a warden who comes at you with quicksteps and light attacks, or one that manages his distance and uses heavy strikes mixed with feints. If you meet a warden, he's going to try to hit you with that light-light combo, and then do a shoulder bash. Because that's what wardens do. That's the only thing they can do. Yeah they can counter your top attacks, and guard break you, but the bread and butter of the warden is that light light shoulder bash combo into another light light shoulder bash combo. That's our main source of consistent damage. And it's as predictable as a raider trying to rush in and grab someone, or a conqueror's shield bash. You can see it coming a mile away.
That's true, but the game doesn't give you a lot of options to customize your playstyle either. The gear could help customize your style by making players more agressive or defensive depending on their stats, but it doesn't give a big bonus at the moment, so all characters are pretty much the same. Also, in this trailer http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...have-seen-this, there are a total of 12 heroes (1 Vanguard, 1 Heavy, 1 Medium and 1 assassin for all legacies). 12 heroes + custom stats would really make new playstyles come forward. But yes, right now, everyone plays the same.Originally Posted by waraidako Go to original post
Hm, yeah, BUT:Originally Posted by Ishesses Go to original post
If there were things like giving players the options to increase swing-speed, increase dodge/dash-range, strength, reflex-ability, etc. (make swinging a sword faster, dodge/dash farer), etc. could lead to problems, like Orochis getting even faster, dodging/dashing even farther, Raider hitting even harder, etc.
Coming back to the Warden:
The Warden overall is just "too" basic. Not just from the fluff, but also from the tools he has.
Yeah, he has the basic tools to deal with a lot of enemies, which makes him very defensive since as Warden you first have to look what your opponent does, and then react.
So basically you as the Warden have to "cash in"/lose in order to learn what the enemy does. So you have to analyze and predict more then other (more offensive) heroes. As an Orochi you wait for the enemy to attack and then deflect, as Raider you have to lead the combat, initiate combos, etc. The Warden is the opposite and has to react.
However then the Warden has very basic tools at his disposal to react. And that's where he could use some more, like another heavy-attach-chain.
Yep, balancing is really annoying. I understand that already fast or strong character would be totally overpowered with that system. That's why I think the stats shouldn't be too big, and all the heroes should be "nerfed" a bit .I'm not saying all heroes are overpowered. I'm just saying that if all heroes would be closer to the average, they could customize their stats without going overboard. Of course, they'd keep their abilities so you might style prefer the Raider over the Warden for exemple, even if their stats at level 0 are close (Raider would still be stronger and Warden faster).Originally Posted by Roy_McDunno Go to original post
I agree, Warden is way too defensive at the moment. If you could give him some more offensive powers, and perharps an unblockable, you could play more agressively with him.
I love that idea!Originally Posted by waraidako Go to original post
I think the Warden is perfectly fine where it is at. I played it pretty much the entire alpha and I really enjoyed it. I think the Warden is exactly where Ubisoft wants it to be. It doesn't have a high moveset and therefore I think this class will be amazing for less talented players and new players. You don't have to think as much when playing Warden and dont have to try and time your combos. You can just focus on basic attacks and blocking, not setting up a string of combos at the right time. It works well because this will help newer and less skilled players and at the same time its balanced enough to where a veteran player can wreck shop with the Warden if they play it right.
