Can we all agree that stat levelling up should be removed?

Hello. I didn't really play much this beta due to the game not working, but I've played the last one, watched a lot of my friend, and the stats are just ridicolous once you level them up enough, I personally believe that customisation should be limited to just cosmetics, and that progression through upgrading stats should be removed, I have a bad feeling that there will be a bit of Pay To Win if this isn't removed, in the form of those packs you can buy, and I think I speak on the behalf of pretty much everyone when I say:

    DON'T DO THAT.

Personally I like gear progression. I like getting better stuff the more I play. We'll have to wait and see what the game is like when everyone has good gear to see how it balances, and if the game is actually balanced around everyone having good gear.

Personally, I like the gear and I think it makes the game exciting. If you can't customize your stats the way you want them, there wouldn't be much point in gear, in my opinion. I like the thrill of the hunt for better gear so I can choose the stats I want.

I never noticed a real diffrence between no gear and level 39 gear. Only the running speed is noticable and in Dominion super important.
And you need maybe 10-15 hours to upgrade every item on lvl 6 for a character. I think it's no problem. If I'm a better player I will win anyway, regradless of the bonus stats.

Edit: After reading this Reddit-Thread I have to say I'm wrong. The stats bonus are to extreme. I don't mind small stats changes like 10%.

The author says that he does with his gear 25 instead of 15 dmg with a light attack from an Oroshi. And his gear hasn't the max level. With better gear he would even do more damage. He can kill a Warden with a stromrush, double light attack and a heavy one. Without gear he needed another two light attacks.

Part of me does agree with you, I think in the spirit of a competitive atmosphere, it's important that people are on an even level statistically but I also really enjoy the progression of improving my character even as I improve as a player. It won't affect me so much though because I will be playing this game nonstop once it releases but I could see how it would make it difficult for people who cannot play it as much.

well i agree that things should be equal between players, i still like having it in there. i like having a progression system so i'm always working towards something, it keeps me interested and playing far longer than i normally would. it is a double edged coin, but i think the benefits of being able to upgrade and customise your character far out way the minor balance issues it causes. and in all honesty i didn't notice and major difference having upgraded gear. so i think it should be fine

Totally agree with you. This game is praised to be skillful and competitive by the devs, so any stats on gear would destroy this promise.
They should either remove the stats system completely or switch them with stats that don't effect important gameplay mechanics like gain x% more reown or steel from battles.
Or they should at least give us the option to queue into games were gear stats are disabled or enabled, so everyone can choose the way he wants to play.

While the progression and receiving loot shouldn't be removed, the overall potential of "overpoered-ness" should be eliminated,
and generally the visual impact the different armor-pieces have should be increased.

Honestly, all chest-pieces for the Warden look the same, and in the game you only see the Warden's back, not his/her front.

Would be good if lvl-ups had relatively "small" impacts on the stats, but greater visual variation.

Tl;dr: Less stat-extremes, more visual differences on equipment-parts.

Maybe the option to play with the items, but remove their stats for an "all-are-the-same-stat-wise"-gameplay.
This way, every player would still have his own cool looking warrior, but the stats would be the default-ones.

I already made a post about it, but I will say it again.

The ability to change stats it is ok and I think it should be in the game, the problem is that there is a powercurve, changing a stat should be a tradeoff always, meaning that a level 1 would have the same amount of stat points as a level 20 renown 5, just organized diferently.

Upgrading an stat should mean that you downgrade another the same amount, it should allow for the player to adapt the character to his style. Right now there are stats that are simply the only choice to upgrade, Attack and Defense for example are obviously the best choice for their respective weapon/armor parts.

I would like to see something like armor having Defense and Dodge distance stats, upgrading one downgrades the other, meaning that if you go for Defense you cannot rely so much on dodges and if you go for Dodge distance you have to be really careful about beeing hit. It would have and impact in gameplay, allowing for making an Orochi ultra squishy but upgrading his mobility even more, or a conqueror extremely tanky while almost immobile, or the other way around, you might face an more mobile conqueror that not only has a good shield defense but can also close the gap and shieldbash you more effectively, but when you do indeed hit him it won't be as tanky as other conquerors.

But it has to be real trade-off, right now heroic parts will just upgrade your stats incredibly compared to a level 1 standard part.

The real problem would be to find important stats to modify that allow for this type of gameplay customization. Personally, I don't like the 3 stats on every part, I would make it 2 stats per armor/weapon part and if you upgrade one stat the other gets downgraded.

It even allows for standard weapons to be actually usefull, I am not a fan of transitional weapons that are just in the game for the sake of transition to something better, you might want to not specialize too much on defense, but still want to improve it just enough that you are ok with the lost on dodge distance, so you want an standar weapon that changes only a bit your stats. (you still might want the heroic weapons for the aesthetic though).

I don't think there should be stats on gear. Perks are okay, but nothing that gives you a wild damage advantage over people who are lower level.

Gear that gives more revenge points on hit/block or lowers cooldowns on feats seem good to me.
