Hi All,
First off I want to say thank you for the opportunity to test and help make this game better. I have been excited and looking forward to this game since it was first revealed back at E3 last year, and I absolutely want to make this game the best it can be.
Overall Impression:
I have to say, overall, if I wasnt before getting my hands on the alpha, I am an even bigger fan of this game now. I loved every second of it. I primarily played as the Warden, and with other humans against Bots. Mostly I was trying to get a feel for the game and the controls. While the controls overall felt great, were able to pick up pretty easily and were decently responsive. The maps were engaging and exciting with multiple areas that lead to interesting combat, scenarios. And the actual fighting was dynamic albeit repetitive. Still after waiting so long the get my hands on some actual gameplay, it still met and in many cases exceeded my lofty expectations.
What I did not like:
Even though, I did love much of the game and game play, I did see some areas for improvement. One of the tougher parts of the game where the 2v1 situations. Maybe I have not had enough experience yet, but being the 1 on them was extremely challenging and I knew I would most likely die, but if I could hold out long enough, I could help my team. Similarly, being the 2 it kinda felt unfair and we would easily kill the 1. It is good and bad, cause to me it made the game kinda boring (always looking for the 2v1) but also did add some strategy to work with your teammates and find that advantage. The falling was a little glitchy sometimes, like a character would be standing on the edge one moment then fall a few seconds later even though they didnt move. Also there were sections of maps where I would have like to jump down (albeit taking fall damage) but could not for whatever reason (the a section of missing railing at the top of the samurai map, near point A I think, is one such place that comes to mind). Somewhat minor but probably the most frustrating part of the the fighting for me was what to do when both you and an opponent attack around the same time. I found it frustrating more times than not where we would both attack around the same time (more often it happened when I was using a heavy attack) and he would hit me causing my attack either to stop or cancel. It because increasingly annoying when even if I tried to block, I could not stop my attack and left me feeling helpless. If possible I would recommend giving the ability to stop an attack and give the opportunity to block after you are start and attack. Secondly, if you are both swinging from the same side, I feel like they should cancel each other out. So if you swing from the right, they swing from the left, then they should cancel out like a block. Its minor I know but would improve the fighting and improve the responsiveness and give me more control over my character. The only real "bug" I found was when rolling most of the time, the weapon would detach from my character and float around them as they tumbled. It was minor, and only aesthetic, but it did annoy me a little. I noticed it primarily on the warden but also noticed it on the raider.
What I did like:
There is honestly too much to say, and some I have mentioned above, so I will keep it short and sweet. I enjoyed the balance, no class seemed to have more power than any other. I thought the abilities of each character where interesting and dynamic and each had their benefit but I knew which ones I would prefer pretty easily. The maps seemed balanced as well yet aesthetically looked amazing. I am excited to see and experience more. This has been the first game that has really made sword fighting feel like sword fighting. Someone on the Dev team I believed has referred to it as medieval rock paper scissors and it makes me chuckle cause there is some truth to it, but the shield break, 2 on 1s and abilities make it so much more than that. That feeling I got when I loaded into my first game, and beheaded (executed) the first guy I saw... I will always remember.
In conclusion, I think you guys have done a great job with this game. As I have said it has met and even exceeded my lofty expectations and most of my issues with it are minor and in general do not take away from the overall gameplay. I am really excited to see where this game is going and cant wait to get my hands on more content. I hope I am lucky enough to try out the Beta, and will most definitely be pre-ordering and buying the game. I hope that some of my feedback and thoughts/feelings are helpful and please reach out with any questions, concerns, comments, or if there is any more information you want or need. I apologize this is so long, but I love talking about this game, and have gotten several of my friends on board with it as well. Thank you again and I look forward to this game in the future!
