Like any fighting game there needs to be a training mode where you can just try out your combos, get a feel for the range of each weapon, and generally just train against an opponent whose reaction you can control. You could have training dummies, and you could spawn in enemy bots and tell them to do stuff like blocking, or light attacks, heavy attacks, dodging, up-left-right attacks, guard breaking, etc. etc. and set them at different levels so their difficulty gets adjusted, so you can practice the timing and see where the limits for everything is.
For instance, being able to have a bot constantly attacking me so I can practice the timing window for parrying would be invaluable.
Even though I played a lot of the game, I still don't feel that I understand the mechanics yet. Because I haven't been able to test out all of my abilities in a controlled environment. All I'm doing is winging it and hoping for the best, and sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn't, and for a fighting game that just isn't good enough. We need a training mode.
I think it would be enough if you could just 1vs1 with a friend...
There you could try out all your moves and tell your friend how to react to your strikes.
The ideal would be a special Training Map, were you can still play with up to 3 friends (so 4 players). If that Map had a control point or some play to heal, or full regeneration or something, you could literally try out and train everything + it would be a great learning experience with your friends!
+ you could just f*@k around with the game =P
I agree completely. the Soul Calibur games have an amazing Training Mode where you can set the autonomy of the bots to do certain things like guard, break, or attack.
Having invincibility and fighting 1v1 or 1vN opponents is invaluable.
Once more, being able to PAUSE in training mode and look at movesets helps. I hated that everytime I went into practice I had to play through the tutorial again and if you sit on one point, you end up fighting 3 enemies at once. I think the game needs a serious training/practice mode overhaul to come in line with modern fighting games.
P.S. The moveset screen is somewhat confusing (also can scroll but is unintuitive) and the videos are not broken up in a format that makes them accessible.
The idea is good, but i think that it is not enough, as not everyone has a friend, who is always here if you want to try something.Originally Posted by Schrekken56 Go to original post
In such a practice mode invincibility or quick respawns would be great, so you can go on wihout restarting the game again and again.
Still i think, a practice mode against bots is not avoidable.
