What Do Gear Attack & Defense Stats Affect?

During the final hours of the alpha, my friend and I managed to luck into a duel against each other. We had wanted to do this for some time in order to actually break down how certain mechanics work, mostly regarding Orochi. We managed to record some of it and in the course of our reviews we seem to have discovered that the Attack Stat on Weapons affects neither Damage on most attacks nor Attack Speed (on any attacks at least to our semi-trained eyes) compared to far lower ranked weapons.

You can find a video comparison of these weapons here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OOWTK5hDZI

The Warden Blade Up Heavy Attack seems to be the only Attack that has a very minor damage improvement but we didn't have enough footage to find any further recreations.

Similarly Defense stats seem to have little to no effect whatsoever as well on damage reduction.

If anyone can point us to some information on what exactly this Stat affects that would be most appreciated.

the do in fact affect damage and damage reduction but there is a bug that causes gear stats to not function at all or to a significantly lesser degree than intended. The overall impact also isn't really felt in a single attack until you start getting purple gear but can be very cumulative with multiple strikes. Here's a video for you to compare with your own video:

I saw that and posted a direct comparison of my level 1 Orochi blade v my friend's Level 5 Defense Warden Armor (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...1#post11950754 ). It seems to be the exact same damage which leads me to believe both of us have our gear stats bugged. Even in a worse case scenario of assuming Draxel is Attacking a Level 12 Defense Warden, his Stat differential should be smaller than my level 1 v Level 5 and should be seeing more damage compared to me.

from what im hearing defense was consistently more buggy than attack, honestly given how buggy it seems that any dmg comparisons aren't really trustworthy.
