    I'm just helpless

I started playing this game friday with a friend. We sucked and than we got better and had some fun. But since saturday I can't play this game anymore.
Every attack gets blocked, i keep getting hit by horrifying combos I can't block, when I shieldbreak it gets cancelled but whenever my enemies shieldbreak I can't cancel while my finger is literally on the button to do so. Did everybody get 4 times better within a day, did the AI get a difficulty upgrade, is it lag or do I just suck.

And to top everything off the Raider unbreakable doesn't work anymore while its the only character I really enjoy. Since saturday everytime I do the unbreakable, my weapon flames up and goes for a hit but then it cancels. It's not blocked or evaded, it literally stops mid swing. I even made sure I wasn't hitting extra buttons or moving.

Friday went fine, but since saturday I just get slain without any time to ever attack myself. Do I just suck?

I wouldn't worry, it can be a multitude of things.

    - Yes people will improve over time, and become familiar with other classes main attacks.
    - Sometimes we get caught with an attack just before we try a move, which makes it seem like ours hasn't work.. yes you pressed it but you didn't get the timing right. (happens to us all).
    - I got the feeling the AI adjusts in difficulty over time (Though that might be wrong)
    - Practise makes perfect, personally i look over the moveset, watch the basic and advanced how to play in game tutorials for the class i want to play, then i go to dual vs AI. I practise the moves till i get them right and feel comfortable with them, not caring how many times i die trying to achieve it. Then i head into public.
    - We all fatigue, we're all human. Sometimes we just are not as quick at reacting as usual when we've had a long day, are stressed, tired, distracted. We all have a bad day now and then.
    - Sometimes we just come up against more skillful players.

Simply put, don't worry about not doing well, it could be many things. All i'd say is rest and practise will help you get back to grips with it.

I'd also say to anyone else who gets frustrated in these situations, that it can be good to take a step back. If you are getting stomped in public.. go back to duals for a while, just get some practise in. If pvp is too much, try pve/pvAi for a while. Or just take a break, get a drink, have 15 mins, breathe, then come back to it.

I hope you manage to find your stride in the game again, and if not, there will always be people willing to give tips and advice, and possibly even do duals with you to help you get to grips with moves, and build up reactions.

I'm a martial artist in real life, and when we train we perform the same moves over again and again and again. The reason we do this is to perfect the technique, but also to train muscle memory so that we can react and perform the move without even thinking about it. Practise makes us more precise and quicker. The same actually applies to gamers, it's different muscles with it being our fingers, but by repetition, it becomes muscle memory. This means you spend less time thinking about what to do and just simply reacting.

Hope some of this helps you not feel so helpless.

Although this is good advice, the skill-matching for opponents needs some work. I tried playing Brawl with a Conqueror I got to level 7 playing Dominion, but just kept getting repeatedly killed again and again. I know I need to practice but it's not entertaining, it's demoralising to lose again and again.

Agreed, i doubt there is any skill based matchmaking at all at this stage, which is where the imbalance comes in.

However, i'd fully expect that come release, that is a vital part of the matchmaking system, else, as you say, it would be demoralizing to some.

Trust that given a week to a month after release, things should be evening out and being more balanced.

I agree with you man. This game is weird. I honestly don't think it's about sucking or not sucking, stuff just seems off. Hit registration is a major issue for me. I swing my freaking axe straight through people but nothing happens and then they swing at me and hits. Let's hope it gets better.
