Dear Ubisoft,
This game is awful. The best I can describe is as a 3rd party shooter with no shooting just melee attacks. Mortal Kombat meets Call of Duty. I'm sure I'll be scrubbed from the alpha list but this game has absolutely no interest to me and I'm guessing the wider gaming community. Proof is that I can't give away Alpha Codes to my 300 strong friends list. No one is interested.
And guess what, I'm not a 15-year old. I'm a 40-something year old gamer who pre-orders collectors editions of everything. I'm your premium customer and I can't see this as working.
I'll admit that the E3 presentation was strong, and you had a lot of people lining up but this not IP that's going to work. I would seriously make this a $39.99 and hope that people are semi-curious. Please, ask me the question - "Would you recommend this game to your friends 1 - No, 10- Definitely".... I give it a flat 0, as in Zero.
May be I'm wrong, and it will become the next Call of Duty. I doubt it. I wish you all the best.
Cheers,

Man i just bet you're fun at parties.
Well first of all, how about some constructive criticism? "Lol you suck xd rofl" is not quiet what one might pass off as constructive. All i read here is someone who loses every fight because he just rushes into every fight without plan, beeing mopey about how bad he is, rage-quitting and feeling the need to have everyone on the forum know that he personally doesn't like this game, as if anyone actually cared about that.
Maybe your problem is that you think of this as a Call of Duty game. In Call of Duty you just run arround, shoot everything you have at someone and then die. That's not how this game works and if you think it does, i might just have found your problem.
I stand at the exact opposite. I think this game has the most potential of any new IP i played in the last decade. The game still has a few flaws, but nothing that would deserve a 0/10. This is at the very least a 8. I'd lean towards a 9.
BTW they will make a poll once the Alpha is over. I don't know why you felt the need to put your spam into the forum when you could have just taken that. Probably your need for attention or so.
Personally I wasn't sold on the E3 gameplay, I just saw it as a kind of viking combat single player campaign game. It didn't interest me that much, then I seen a Dominion gameplay video and I was certain this game is gonna be awesome, got into the alpha and wasn't disappointed. The animation and graphics are amazing, the medieval setting is one of my favorites, and the combat mechanics which allow for progression of skill level is what really sold it to me. I'm still beginner level in skill really, but I'm a lot better than when I first started the other day, and I've only played two of the character classes so far and only to about level 10. Can't wait to learn more about the combat mechanics, see what other cool abilities there are to unlock and improve even more. I love this game, it's just about perfect.
Strongly disagree with you, since you seem to back what you say up with some credentials, here's some of mine.
I'm 34, a professional games programmer who has over 16 AAA games on my belt. I'm also an avid gamer and i don't buy the collectors version of every game i play.
Ok.. on to expectations of how the game will perform. The game is not trying to be a call of duty replacement, it certainly is not catering to 'shooters'. To compare all games to fps shooters shows an incredibly narrow mindset when it comes to games. There are many genre's and granted not all genre's build the following call of duty has done, nor bring in that kind of revenue stream. That does not mean a game fails. Games can be extremely successful without hitting the figures Call of Duty has.
This game was always intended to be a 3rd person skilled melee combat game based on duelling. It has achieved that and having played other games of it's ilk, it is indeed going to be successful. How successful, time will tell, but regardless there is a large player base that will be very interested in this game. Mount and Blade had a large following, and there are many who 'still' play that game because it's one of the best of that style of game. Many flocked to War of the Roses and it's vikings sequel and still play that too. Are the numbers as great as call of duty? .. No, and they don't need to be.
If the game is not to your individual taste, then that's totally fine. However, just because you don't like it doesn't make it a failed IP. That is incredibly arrogant believing that any game you personally dislike will be a failed game. You couldn't be further from the truth. This is a game that a vast playerbase has been waiting for. So far from what I've seen, they have delivered.
They have delivered on a fluid directional skill based combat system. It works. Granted there are some reported cases of it not working, however in the 2 full days i've been testing it, i am pleased to say it works ideally. If i time a block right, it works, if i block an unblockable i get hit. If i dodge at the right time i evade, if i parry at the right time then i create an opening. It is a 'skill' based game, you have to know the timing of your actions and have to read what your opponent is doing. It has an extremely responsive and rewarding system without feeling too slow or too fast. It is very well balanced in my perspective.
It will take time for people to see and understand that too, for those who are not having the same experience... go into dual vs AI. and practise all the moves that the two ingame how to play videos for each character show you. Practise the move even if you lose over and over till you get it right. When you are comfortable, go and take on the public. If you engage the public before you know your moveset, then expect frustration, as you'll be playing against some players who have practised and can read your moves and know how to counter.
Ubi.. you've made a great game, keep it up.
Players... practise, practise, practise.
Haters... open your mind, and if you can't, then there are other games out there for you. While you seek elsewhere, we'll be loving this game meaning it is not a failure. Goodluck in whatever other games you seek out to play.
Hey Randy, you're right on a lot of what you say. I actually felt like I was spamming buttons. May be the tutorial wasn't thorough enough. I don't know. It didn't grab me.Originally Posted by Randy_Salo Go to original post
In my job, I'm kind of privileged enough to be involved in playing a lot of early releases of games. This wasn't the best. May be I'm wrong, I hope for Ubisoft's sake I'm wrong... I've been wrong before.
Thanks for your feedback.

Interesting. You seemed to have persevered through the learning curve. I admire that. I'm not convinced the casual gamer will do the same. Again, maybe I'm wrong. I've been wrong in the past.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Thank you for your feedback. I think you're right on a number of points but I just don't know if the learning curve will work for the majority of casual gamers.
I know how hard new IP is to develop.... Most absolutely fail. I'm in the business of trying to get new IP to work. I personally think that the learning curve is going to be too high as it stands. May be the developers will read our feedback and make it less of a steep climb.
Again, it's feedback. I welcome a correspondence.

Don't forget this is an alpha. Tutorials are not usually complete until later in development. Right now they are trying to get the main functionality cemented and ensure there are little to no problems in their core game.Originally Posted by Ngentot Go to original post
Once they have nailed it all down, then comes the polish and flair. With that comes time to spend on fleshing out tutorials etc.
Take into account that there is no campaign element in the alpha, most will play a tutorial then practise through a campaign. I'd also hope they would provide more of a practising game mode too. For me i spent plenty of time in the dual verses AI to help me perfect my blocks, or certain technique. It can be punishing though as you may die a lot while trying to pull it off. It would be ideal if they could create an area you can walk around it to combat a dummy that will 'only' throw right attacks, or top attacks etc.. so you can practise more precisely before dualing like i did.
As i've said though.. in development, those kind of things tend to happen post-alpha, sometimes even post-beta.
We are looking at a limited slice of what the game is when it is in alpha. Alphas are designed to be released as a development tool, to ensure things are working the way they require them to.
Simply put, there is more to come.
