Hey guys.
I hit Renown 2 on my Orochi today, which unlocks the Renowned quality gear.
Renowned gear will further specialize you into one type of stat compared to the normal gear.
By stacking into the Attack stat, this is possible with the Orochi:

While the Orochi balance is already issue, strengthening the attack stat will have a massive effect on all classes.
I don't think these item stats are going to work in this game. The game feels much more balanced with no stat alterations and any change to them disrupts it.
The only way to fix this is to make the stats have such little impact on the gameplay that there's no real reason to keep it in the game.
I've been saying this since the last Alpha, the current implementation of item stat gain is non-sustainable if you want to keep the game balanced and fun for any classes. There is for the most part only ever 1 stat of the 3 worth upgrading and once you stack that you completely change any semblance of balance the base classes had. Between revenge gain (changing revenge from a 2v1 equalizer mechanic to semi-broken duel mechanic) and attack damage increase, fights quickly become significantly less fun especially if you do not have gear upgraded.
Stat changes need to either be out of the game entirely (honestly cosmetic customization even in this Alpha is robust enough to support keeping people engaged and adding more down the line will only make it even better), or taken off of items and put on some sort of character level so that players of like level will all be on an equal playing field and not have to rely on grinding gear stats. Even then I still believe stats would need to be significantly reworked to not lead us into a world of boring metas that are clearly better than others.
I think the gear having leanings isn't bad, but more like a fighting game where you pick technical/power or whatnot. Make the cap much, much smaller than it currently is. Without a mode unaffected by stat changes, the current stat building rate will make it impossible for weaker players to enjoy PvP. Unless they want it to be almost entirely PvE a la Payday 2, then the weapon stats need a serious overhaul. Heck, they could even make it so that stats only affected PvE, leaving PvP much more balanced, and that would be preferable to the current state.
Ouch. That's vicious. I think customisation should remain as cosmetic only. Otherwise in just a couple of months this game will be innaccessible to new players because they will be two-shotted by almost everybody out there just because they've been playing longer or have payed cash for gear packages.
That's no way to balance a game and it will destroy its longevity. Perhaps made seperate game modes where stats are disallowed and where they are allowed - similiar to Destiny's PvP Iron Banner mode where character level advantages are allowed.
It looks like he opens with a Sweep (light + heavy button tap) then his second hit is a dash back heavy, this third and fourth are chained light top attacks and then guardbreak into heavy top.

After reviewing some footage of my own level 1 orochi blade work it appears Attack doesn't actually affect damage at all, and given my less than super scientific video comparisons I don't even think the attack speed is any different either. And I am now left extremely confused as to what Attack & Defense stats actually affect. My guess would be maybe something to do with stagger & recover off attacks/guards but I honestly simply have no idea. I wish I had enough time and forethought to attempt to science out other stats like Revenge Gain (though anecdotally as someone who built that stack on my Kensei & didn't on my Warden, I feel like there was a noticeable difference in time to revenge). Similarly Sprint speed seems to have some effect but I don't know for sure.
While this makes some stats more of a mystery than others, I still believe that gear stats are dangerous for this game's longevity and it would be nice to have some more detailed information on what exactly they affect.
You are absolutely right about my chain.Originally Posted by ServiusOrtus Go to original post
The attack stat definitely works. You might have fought an opponent with a different defense stat. Although I have heard from HideoshiKaze that his gear was bugged at one point where it wouldn't work at all, but he fixed it somehow.
I have to assume both of us are bugged then since even if I assume a worse case situation for you (Lvl 11 blade v Lvl 12 defense armor) you should still be doing more damage than me as a Lvl 1 Blade v Lvl 5 defense armor.Originally Posted by DraxeI Go to original post
