I have to admit, when I first started playing this game in dominion I got really frustrated because I kept getting my *** kicked. The learning curve seemed too high. The other team would just gang up on me every time and it seemed way too unbalanced. I still haven't won a match in dominion, but last night I was getting close to winning every match. My team would get over 1,000 points before the other team did, but when it came to finishing off the opponent my team would get wiped out. I think with more practice I'll start winning matches.
Why was I more successful? The person I was playing with, we were coordinating our attacks and communicating. I think that's the key to this game. If you have a team of friends that you can communicate with and coordinate your assault, then you'll be way more successful. Otherwise, I've noticed everyone just runs around aimlessly doing their own thing. I'm enjoying the game a lot more now and it's fun to play with your friends. I don't think this game will be enjoyable for someone who wants to go solo all the time.
Just my thoughts. I have only been playing for about 5 or 6 hours so I'm still a newb.
To be honest the kicking seems to be a thing with Dominion, the last few times I've tried getting in on it, its refused to log in. Then when I did get in, a match our team was doing pretty well and gaining points only to have the damn thing boot us all out. Felt unfair as we didn't get any of the points that we'd earned.
I learned pretty quickly that teamwork is important but I also think pre-match strategy might become really important, I play Berserker a lot and it makes me pretty mobile. The matches I won last night another fast light character and I paired up, our teammates were both tanks, they held capture points and we would sprint back and forth helping them hold points
I can agree. Having friends to play with increases the enjoyment of this game. Being ganged up on without some semblance of back up can get very frustrating. I have noticed that you really have to have some kind of plan on what people are gonna do. I was wondering how dominion would fair putting a 4th control point on the maps as I have seen people do 2 per control point and hold them to gain the points and just snapping out at the third every once in a while.
Lets be honest when it comes to multiplayer games they are allways better when communicating with others and when playing with friends. Might not be that much talking in game yet with it being the Alpha, but when fully released I am sure there will be alot more communication.
Also with any new game it always takes a while for people to adapt to new game modes and playstyles.
I think that you are all correct. I believe that the pre-game strategy and character composition of the team could be just as important as the in-game communication. It might be fun to run an all assassin- quick strike team, but if your team doesn't have someone that has enough defense to help survive longer than a few minutes you might not win very many games.
Something that I would like to try would be to have a character draft in charater selection like they have in MOBA's. It might help to balance the team as well as add a little bit of time to talk about the strategy amongst your team during the time when you select the composition of it. Although due to the fact that there are only six classes I wouldn't say that you go as far as MOBA's do as to allow banning.
I have enjoyed it a lot so far, it is exactly what I was looking for out of this game. The only thing that bothers me right now are the cheesy things people are doing. They will go and climb half way up a ladder and slide down on you as you chase them. Meaning someone has to go all the way around and above them to get them off the ladder. If there was a basic ranged attack I feel they couldn't do that. Also fighting the warriors around the B area could be a bit more fluid.
The ladder play is definitely frustrating at times. One time a dude dropped down on my character while I was climbing up and he killed me while I was on the ladder. Hopefully they work out the kinks with the ladder stuff before release. I think allowing you to choose your character based on what characters your team has chosen before the match would be helpful. Kind of like overwatch I guess. Also, allowing you to choose a different hero after dying might be good in case there are too many of the same character type on your team. I think some of this may have already been mentioned but I thought I'd reiterate. Hopefully I'll be able to get in on the beta too.
