The cost for visual customisation is just too much, way too much.

    My thoughts about costumization

Thank you to all who participated in our day 1 poll! Today, we'd love to hear your thoughts on our Customization system. Like yesterday, please feel free to elaborate on your answer in the comments below.
Customizations go deep and i like that ! but maybe add a little more options in customizations like giving the symbols the tint you want, so you maximize the difference of players on the battlefield.

i like the fact you can destroy or dismantle a armor gear/weapon part for XP or GearEXP,

another well done part is the fact you can hold the item with better stats and still can change the look on it if you do not like it.

overall the game got me hyped! still a few little bugs but that's what's an alpha is for to fix it!

    Yess

While I love the depth, I'm sad that the time taken to create what you want is not always displayed in the best manner. For example, when placing your crest on your armour pieces - due to the wood grain, pattern, etc, etc it's barely visible but some colours.

I'd love to be able to choose to have it overlay a little more boldly.

I would also love to be able to dye my leather more colours.

I also agree that it costs too much to mask one item over another currently.

I am actually kind of disappointed with the current variety of gear pieces. Regarding the Warden, you can only change the chest, helm and shoulders. This means that every Warden will have identical looking gauntlets, pants and boots from now until max level. Even the Dev outfit looks really similar to what we are currently wearing besides the fancy looking helmet. So adding some gear options for our lower body is probably my biggest wish for the final game.

Now, the color and symbol options are pretty good and stand out on the Warden really well. So no real complaints there, although it would be kind of cool to allow us to make our own color palette.

Regarding the UI, I am not sure how others feel, but the bar that is used to tell you how much stats are being gained by breaking down one item to boost the stats of another is kind of confusing. Like, it just looks weird the way it currently is. I can't really explain it, but it's just strange looking to me, lol.

Anyway, I love the executions and the fact that we can unlock more is awesome. Hoping for a decent variety when the game ships. The emotes should be cool, too.

But yeah, I am hoping for some lower body customization at some point. Right now it feels more like we can change the color of our characters, but not necessarily the outfits. Kind of like how in Street Fighter you can unlock new colors for your primary costume. But then that game also offers completely different outfits that drastically change the look. I am hoping for something like that as we get higher in level.

Like, take the Warden, Kensei and Warlord from the storyline trailer for example. It would be cool if we unlocked those types of armors. Just something to mix up the looks a bit.

Still, this is pretty good for a game that has almost half a year to go until release. Looking forward to see what you guys come up with for future updates.

Customization should be only cosmetic when it comes to competitive games

I like that there is gear customization. I think it adds a lot of fun elements to the game, and allows people to feel progress with their character regardless of their skill level. WIth that said, I think if there are "Ranked" and "Unranked" Matchmaking settings, there should be no in-game benefits from gear. The benefits in "Ranked" should ever only be cosmetic.

Otherwise that could turn the game into a "Pay to win" scenario which will ultimately lower the lifespan of the game, and be disastrous for your competitive community, which time and time again have been shown to be the glue that holds games like these together.

You might have people in here saying they want gear to have a bigger impact on in-game strength, but this is not an MMO. Time played alone, or money spent should never in any way contribute to stronger in-game abilities. Please refer to Dead by Daylight and see how their "perk" system has in many ways made the game worse. It looks like they are now adding a "perkless mode" to fix this problem, but the more modes you add the further you divide your playerbase which can lead to issues with matchmaking queue times. Assuming characters are balanced, all competitive games should be an "even playingfield" at the start of the match.

When 'upgrading' gear, it seems pretty worthless, the one time i did it it moved the bar a hair, if that. I dont need things to super level, but there needs to be a point to doing it.

I noticed the shield the knight has looks plain and doesn't have the custom emblem on it. It would be cool if it did.

Oh and it would be cool if you could create your own custom color palette. Like for example I have most of my stuff colored how I like it, but one part the symbol is a certain color, but I would like it to be a different color, but from all possible palettes it doesn't seem possible.

Couldn't agree more. I play a lot of smite, and players happily play or pay for cosmetics and vanity, if the skins we buy gave extra stats to the characters, i simply would not play it.

I got nothing more to say really than I did on the previous Alpha. Customization is great, deep and not difficult at all to get something you really like.

Only option I would like to be added would be something like an Opacity value for the different pieces, like reducing the opacity of the patterns so the symbols can "pop" more.

But yeah, all in all, great system.

I like the customization but theres to much gear that looks the same, i would like for there to be more variarety, also outfits leave much to be desired, would expect more than just a pattern.

Being able to customize right shoulder differently from left shoulder and such is a really nice touch.
