I'm disappointed in my experience.
I'm having fun but still have reservations.
I'm loving the game but there's still some work to do.
This game is the bestest, don't change anything!
Connection issues. Dedicated servers are a must so many matches end with a dropped connection.
Training is no existent need training on facing the different heroes like a little battle against each one highlighting strengths and weaknesses.
Controls take a bit of getting use too. No different layout options.
Customisation needs to be explained a bit more I have all this loot but don't know what to do with it.
Hope the game comes with an actually instruction manual.
Enjoying the experience so far.
Okay, first off, I'd like to say congratulations to the team who created this, this is unlike any game I've played before, if this is to be a new direction for Ubisoft then the next few years are gonna be intense!..
Now on to a review of sorts, I don't really know where to begin so, uh start with combat, now I've played a lot of different games over the last 20+ years, but the feels this game provides in the heat of combat is by and large the most unique I've ever felt, there's plenty of npc's to mindlessly hack and slash through to burn off steam but when you lock blades with another warrior it becomes a game of chess.. A bloody, confusing, fast paced game of chess, and timing is important which is bad cause I have a poor reaction time(my fault, not yours) the focus on stances is well rounded and thought out and I love the idea of customising the weapons and armour so you can build your own personal warrior. HOWEVER, aside from wanting more on the actual plot of the game, there is one thing I would like to suggest though, that being the option to access weapons and gear in the post game screen, maybe there is a way and I've not found it, but I personally find it redundant to have to leave the que for the next game to return to main menu to quickly check if what part I got last game, say, a pommel for an axe, is better or worse than what I currently have equipped, To the go back into a whole new que, waiting times are near on non existent in every mode, longest I've had to wait before joining a game, 20-28 seconds, so it's not a major problem just a bug bear really, also I've noticed a few times in my matches against the conquerer class that attacks aren't being blocked, I match stance go defensive, yet the animation slips through. Those are really the only two things that I have to say on actual gameplay, I've had next to no trouble with lag or latency issues but I have been booted a few times, at time of writing this I'd say the ratio of games completed and games crashed sending me back to main menu is 70/30% but for how raw this is I'm willing to accept that.
That's really all I have to say, on my time with for Honor. A quick side question though, is Apollyon going to be making an appearance in the alpha? I'd like to see if her warriors are any different, in terms of asthmatics and combat, and do I need to sign up for beta? Even though I got the backstage pass from the e3 event earlier this year? Thought it best to ask now, than be ignorant and left wandering. Hope this helps.
Thanks again guys for the privilege of allowing us to be apart of your project so early
Good and bad experiences with the game so far. Love the combat system as well as the customization, but i find that the lag combined with excessive dodging makes some people seemingly unbeatable. I mean, i totally understand dodging, but so far it works more like a lag jump that throws off the appeal of the game for me. As I said, I love the combat system with the blocking, counters and strategic attacks/combos, but the dodging as it stands takes away from that. Now i know it can be as simple as connection problems, but as the alpha continues on and on I find more and more people exploiting it and its pretty disappointing to see. But this can of course be because I've been tending to play duels more than anything.
Anyway, I love the game so far, it's a lot of fun. and the features are great. definitely cant wait to see the full game in its excellence!
The basic premise is very similar to Mount and blade which has Four attack and Four defence directions. Mount and blade does it without the stupid lock on and even for that old game it works. It becomes more than just the Canned attacks and Combos because of the freedom. For Honor just isn't as good and it's not hard to learn compared to chivalry. And total control? So many things take control away from the player. I just think the game is bad in the current form, and lock on and everything related to it, is the main issue.
I enjoy the different classes, the move sets, and the loot. I had problems grouping with my friend. We also had a disconnect when he was spectating and it said host was AFK. They were some loading issues, crashes, lag or host disconnections. I am enjoying the experience.Originally Posted by Ubi-Gaidheal Go to original post
Actually, conqueror has unblockable attacks, because you know, a flail is hard to block with a bladed weapon. Rely on your dodge a bit more to deal with conq's, just a heads up dudeOriginally Posted by K_Nich0 Go to original post
I'm on PC and I can't duel my friends at all. Not only that, but I couldnt even add them to a group. We tried restaring uplay and the game several times but invites would get automatically turned down by the system/server/whatever. Im the only one of my friends who actually owns a console and I prefer playing on the PC. We all found the controls clunky and hard to use. Since I own a console, I plugged in a controller and used that. Even though I dont use one often and it was a learning curve to get used to it, It was still better than fighting with the keyboard or mouse setup. My husband tried playing and remapping keys but he couldnt come up with a combination he could work with and quit playing. He has large hands and can't stand using a controller at all, so he wont be buying the game for himself. Im the Admin on the wiki at Wikia/Fandom (I am also staff and a contributor at Fandom.com) and I was really excited about the game. I still am but if I can't play both with AND against my friends, I probably wont be buying it either. As it is right now, I can't even make a group at all.
I do love the combat system, a lot. The only thing I can't figure out, is blocking. See it coming, block, get hit... see it coming, block, get hit hard... This went on and on in my matches. I even spent part of a duel vs AI doing nothing but praticing blocking and I still got hit A LOT. At least half of my blocks were ignored. I dont know if it's server lag or what, but it was seriously annoying. Will there be more than one server? I'm on the west coast USA. I did get better at dodging though.
I will keep watching the game progress, both for myself and my employers. I may purchase yet, but not convinced from Alpha.
After some initial failings and learning the game mechanics it is much more enjoyable than i had imagined. There are mechanical concerns that I'm sure will get addressed.
The things that need immediate attention are:
1. AI bots need some toning down. They are extremely overpowered and can easily face roll 2 players at once. Maybe a 20% decrease in power/defense would be a good start.
2. Provide an objective tutorial for dominion mode. It appears most players are treating it like a traditional kill match style vs objective based victory. Also explanation of revivals during "breaking" mode.
1. It is a really good Game. I had not thought it woud be such a fun to play.
2. Great Flaw: I got disconnected due to inactivty in some matches, because my teammate took very long for his fight and i was dead. This is a no go.
3. I think there is a need for more balancing, but maybe it is only me. I think the Berserker and Kensei are a bit better than the other classes.
4. All in one it runs very fine. Had no Bugs, exept weird Morning Star Animations. And the P2P Connection does not seem right to. Had a lot of Connections problems. (my NAT is green)
5. I do not know if it is already planned, but a brawl with 3 vs 3 and 4 vs 4 woud be cool too![]()
