Version tested – Xbox One
First off, what a great game so far. It is the most finished and polished alpha I have ever played, so hats off to the developers. The game has in my opinion, massive potential, sure there are some things that need work, but that’s the whole point of Alpha and Beta tests.
Something that I noticed when I started the game for the first time (I am not sure if this will be in the final game). Should Vikings/Knights/Samurai be able to fight alongside each other? These are supposed to hate each other to the core, so it would make sense that the reason the game asks you to pick a faction when you first launch the game is because it wants to pair you off with other players in the same faction. 4 Vikings of different classes take on 4 Knights or 4 Samurai of different classes etc.
The way I see it would be along to lines of a massive world map. Each of the three factions would control certain lands on the map and through PvP battles, land would change hands in real time. So as the Vikings manage to win a pre-determined number of battles (let’s say 1000) then the world map would change for all to see, showing that the Vikings influence in the world has grown etc. Through constant battles the world map would be always be changing.
There would also be daily and weekly major battles that would give the winning faction more land. With the increased lands would come some other temporary perks/items or something along those lines. This is open to further discussion and ideas, you have to keep it well balanced so that the most powerful faction does not become too powerful to overthrow.
As for the game, the way it plays at the moment. It feels good, it is slow, but it is supposed to be slow given the type of combat in the game. There also needs to be more blood I think, we are swinging 30lb lumps of sharp metal so I would appreciate more blood or gore.
Some games feel a little short. The rate at which the capping point’s timer ticks is too fast. Some of the characters seem a little overpowered at the moment. The Samurai can swing very fast and do decent damage making them seem a little too strong. I imagine the developers will be balancing the characters with each patch.
Will we see other game modes apart from capturing points? Maybe like an Overwatch map where you capture an area and push to the next area until you get to the third and final area where the defending team makes a last ditch stand to keep the attackers out?
I am sure there will be more choice when it comes to characters. Each faction will need a good selection before launch to mix up the combat, having 2 or 3 of the same character running around will not work. A Rainbow Six Siege setup would work best, once a player picks a character then that character becomes locked to all other party members. Maybe 5/6 different characters from each faction at launch?
