I agree that we do not get enough steel a match and that it needs to be increased. However, what if the also cheapened the packs a little bit. What if the basic packs were cheaper to make it easier? That way you don't have to wait for the missions to reset the next day in order to get enough steel to do anything.
My fear is that they have made this decision to promote the sale of currency packs and other micro-transactions as some people have been saying. I'm not surprised because that sh*t has become a staple in recent years but it's still a shame if it's the case. Raises the potential problem of a pay to win scenario perhaps?
i guarantee they will have steel packs to buy which as you said seems to the be the norm now. Lets hide behind a F2P structure but add in micro transactions to keep the cash flowing in. For some this will be great cause they love blowing money on in game items and others it sucks cause it turns into a pay or get left behind type of deal
If the currency drip is doled out at a reasonable rate, they can put in all the microtransactions they want for all I care, but as it currently stands, there would be a lot of outraged players if the current rate makes it into the final game. Its rather surprising that it is the way it is right now for the test. I feel like during most alphas and betas, progression is significantly sped up so players can test as much content as possible.
Dude I played yesterday for a bit and was able to buy the thousand coin Warden special skin and unlock all three other characters. I think it's plenty fine unless you want everything unlocked on day1?Originally Posted by iAlecP Go to original post
As stated above this steel reward rate is way too low. I played for 14 hours on the first day the alpha went live, and without realizing that the gear packs are pointless since we only get equipment up to level 3 (I have yet to see higher) I had to spend the next 13 hours saving up for an execution. All this screams to me is another freemium game, where on top of spending 60 dollars just to PLAY the game, we'll need to spend money to unlock items at a reasonable rate. Change it up, and make it viable (Rainbow Six Siege economy is a good example), because as of now the grind for anything is taking the fun out of the game.
Edit: Upon further thinking, a Rainbow Six Siege like economy and unlock would be perfect for this game. All vanguards from each faction are unlocked to start, and each subsequent class must be unlocked for a price. Every unlock in the same faction costs more and more (500 for a Conqueror, 1000 for a Lawbringer, 1500 for a Peacekeeper.) Raising the steel per game to somewhere between 80-100, hell even 60 or so, and you'd have a valid economy that rewards time played with unlocks out, as opposed to this abysmal grind that does nothing but scream for people to buy into micro transactions.
The amount of steel rewarded is indeed too low. It's definitely a sign that micro transactions will inevitably rear their ugly heads there but I would suggest that Ubi at least balance the scales a little better. Reward actually winning PvP matches and placing in the top 2 spots in PvP Dominion with more steel - that would then at least offer a more fair way for players to get steel in the spirit of challenge in the game.
The option to buy steel with money is still there (unfortunately) but this method would at least reward the skilled players as well.
I totally agree with you. Seeing as a single pack of 3 items costs at least 300 steel, you would have to play way to much games. Even worse if you're not just playing one hero all the time. Then u have to decide which character you're going buy 3 items for. Maybe award steel per kill / per amount of points in the end or put more rewards in a single cache (by that I mean the current amount at least times 5) that are random and can be for any of the characters you have unlocked.
Agreed! Also if you have done well in a game you should see it effect the amount of rewards you get. For example I just had my best game so far. I went 6/19/1 and got 778 points. What did I get? "No loot found" -.- and the usual 10 gold and 400 XP for completion. It should work the way the renown system works in Rainbow Six Siege. You did well? You've got MVP? Here you go! More renown and XP then anyone else on your team. Just like it should be!
