I commented in the last test that if you are a recreational PC Gamer using a Mouse and Keyboard, the Combat System is too complex; nothing's changed. It works intuitively and well against a single enemy but 3 minutes into this new iteration of the game against multiple enemies and my feverish attempts at button combinations achieve nothing except death. This is a controller game and I'm not experienced enough to use one nor am I interested in learning.
It's quite realistic really: in all my years of competitive fencing I didn't take on multiple opponents for obvious reasons. History shows that heroes engaged in single combat - the clue's in the title. Groups of combatants fight other groups with the more disciplined usually winning.
I like everything else about this game, the look, the music and the whole concept, but I'm not a console user.
I'm not saying it's impossible and plenty who will no doubt comment will deride my ineptitude, but I'm a casual gamer who plays for relaxation, not a pro with hours to spare.
I'm deeply disappointed that this game may not be for the likes of me, which is a shame because I'm well off and a potentially good revenue stream!
I haven't completely given up and might try some alternative keys to make up for my maladroitness.
To end on a positive note: I would leave the Mouse Key pattern as is with a single change key added to WASD to dodge or roll out of the way of multiple enemies.

I also think the controls as they currently are over complicated I just did a few matches tried the game modes and I don't think this is a fun game its a game but their is just to many buttons and mouse movements at the sametime to keep track of especially when surrounded. I get that this is supposed to be realistic and skill based fighting game but something about the controls don't feel fun on PC.
TLDR: Fair warning, if you want to be good at this game you need a console style controller, but I hope that changes.
I game a lot (about 36 hrs a week) and this games keyboard and mouse controls are hands down the worst I've seen in a long time for a game. As far as complexity, its right up there with Star Citizen, which may have more keys being used but not in rapid succession like this game does. I have a feeling a lot of PC users are going to be quite annoyed that the game basically requires a console style controller to do well at. I hope Ubisoft either re-works the controls for PC or warns people that they need a controller to play the game. So far I have played with the PS4 controller, Steam Controller, and Logitech G13, the PS4 controller is hands down the best I've tried.
I agree and I may even be canceling the pre-order as a result of how poorly this controls on the Keyboard and mouse. There really is no excuse for doing keyboard and mouse poorly.Originally Posted by kylegus Go to original post
Problem: It seems that combat systems is made for controller only. Even the video guides are just for controllers.
Please make it easier for mouse and keyboard users. There are so many limitations for keybord/mouse users. Controller is much easier because you have 2 sticks. Blocking is a pain with mouse. You aim and then move for block and aim. If you do it the right way, you have limitations on movement or fighing.
Give keyboard/mouse users some love![]()
Am sorry , i don't think that the pc controls are that much hard to take in hand, On the contrary i think that we must have some difficulty to become acustomed to this kind of controle , this is realistic , and this is what i want , i want to play a realistic game, i don't only want to spam my keyboard and kill the enemy. And there is 3 move with the mouse , 3 click , and the rest with the keyboard this is about less than 10 keys to press. With the mouvement key.. I don't understand why people want the ease when you can have something realistic and cool. If you can't use your brain to learn the control , go play minecraft idk .
Btw sry for my English
I regret doing a very fast pre-order of the game to show support for 2 reasons:
1. being I did not get a alpha key, i had to beg for that on forums until I got an invite... no way to treat a paying customer imo!
2. as pc-user you are forced to get a gamepad... like literally keyboard controls are the worst I ever seen..
apart from all the thing people in this thread mentioned, which ist tatally true 100% I want to add the sluggish stance...
like going with the mouse through your stances to block, should be a piece of cake for a warden... but not with mouse, you suck with a mouse.. no chance winning many duels like that.. when I go to my friend and use the pad, i wreck people in duels as warden, like 70% winrate at lest... with mouse im at honestly 5% winrate... like wtf... it feels like your crippled and you cant hold blocks long enough, it always moves back to basic positioning... like am i supposed to to move my mouse slowly 40cm in one diretion to keep it up permanently???
tl;dr = buy a gampad or dump that game + ubisoft should treat customers better (no help from support whatsoever)
My feeling is exactly the same. I could not describe it any better. Just don't know why we can not bind some of those patterns to the single button. I could make some macros i guess and I may need to enjoy the game but still...Originally Posted by Eljaysh Go to original post
Thanks
Agree as well, I ended up switching to the controller because I just couldn't used to guard mode using the mouse, would definitely prefer a modifier key that could be pressed (or held) and different keys become the guard positions.
