Yeah my brother and I were a little annoyed by this too. We wanted to duel for purposes of learning characters and move sets, as well as the joy of killing our sibling lol. Hopefully it gets added eventually

I've had considerable luck getting 1v1 with friends when we've simultaneously selected the 1v1 on our own. It has matched us up the majority of the time.

You've been extremely lucky. All the times we tried, it never matched us together.
