    STEAM CONTROLLER VIA BIG PICTURE
WARNING! – Fraps may cause issues with For Honor when used in combination with Steam’s Big Picture Mode. If you encounter any issues please close Fraps and restart the game.

It is possible to use the full functionality of the Steam controller via Steam’s Big Picture mode with For Honor. This guide will help you get up and running with a basic/default configuration. But we urge you to customize your Steam controller settings as you see fit!

    1. Start up Steam and your Steam Controller.
    2. Click on [+ ADD A GAME…] this can be located in the bottom left hand corner. OR if you are using a unique skin, it can also be accessed via [Games > Add a None-Steam Game to My Library…]
    3. Click on [BROWSE…] and locate your For Honor Installation folder.
    4. Default installation path – C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\ForHonor
    5. Open - forhonor.exe
    6. Forhonor.exe will now be added and automatically selected in the [Add a Game] Steam window, Click on [ADD SELECTED PROGRAMS]
    7. Close the [Add a Game] window and launch big picture mode. Big Picture can be started with the gamepad Icon in the top right next to the – icon. OR under [View > Big Picture Mode]
    8. Please install the latest firmware if prompted to.
    9. Enter [LIBRARY]
    10. Select [Games] under [BROWSE] and locate For Honor
    11. Select For Honor , move down and enter [Manage Shortcut > Controller Configuration]
    12. Select [Browse Configs] located at the bottom of the window.
    13. Enter [Templates] and select [Game With Camera Controls]
    14. Select [DONE] at the bottom of the page.

The Steam controller is now setup with a basic/default configuration to be used with For Honor.

Changing the Default Steam Controller Configuration Desktop config
You can also change the default desktop configuration to that of a gamepad, which should result in the Steam Controller being detected as XInput device by default. In Big Picture, you can go to Settings -> Controller -> Configurations -> Desktop Configuration, and choose e.g. "Gamepad".

    Activation Error Issue
If you receive an Activation Error when launching the game after adding to your Steam Library (if Steam asks you for a code) you will need to add a custom command line in Steam to launch the game.

    1. Right click For Honor in your Steam library (after you added it to your library as a "non-steam game")
    2. Click Properties
    3. Click Set Launch Options
    4. Paste "/startedByUplay:Prod,2184,Live_LIVE2" (without quotes)
    5. Press OK, Close
    6. Play!

If you don't want to add For Honor to your steam library, you can always edit your steam controller settings for when its not logged into a game. What I did was change the "desktop" configuration to the buttons I wanted to use in For Honor. Then I duplicated it as another game with the title "For Honor" so now I can restore the default desktop config when I want it and then reload For Honor when I need that.

I will say that if you want to do really well in the game, you should get either a PS4 or xBone controller. While the steam controller is exponentially better than KB&M, it isn't as good as the console controllers. Unfortunately unless Ubisoft decides to drastically change how the controls work on PC I think PC players will either love the game because they own a console style controller or hate it because they don't.

Is it normal for it to prompt for an activation code? I followed the instructions step by step and that's the end result.
