Ranked system(in terms of gamemodes) similar to Overwatch

First of all, I am extremely dissapointed with the gamemodes announcement, basicly there is "Duel" 1v1, 2v2 and 4v4, TDM (I don't even know why this is a thing in For Honor) and Dominion (the only gamemode with a bit of depth and strategy).

I think there should be some new gamemode based on objectives(siege mode or something like that) as has been already suggested in the forums for over a year.

But what I want to talk about in this thread is why a Ranked system like Overwatch might be good for this game.

Now I am not talking about how the ranking system works in terms of the ladder, what I am refering to is the diversity of gamemodes in the same ranked queue.

I think For Honor shares a common thing with Overwatch in terms of the characters, all of the characters are simple, there is not in-match progression for the characters (except for Ultimate skills in Overwatch and Feats in For Honor) and all characters are based on the same premise in each game(more or less), in the case of Overwatch is based on shooting (but different styles, except for Reinhardt) and in For Honor is based on the Art of Battle system and melee weapon combat.

This means that the diversity and depth in strategy for characters is limited, it is more obvious in For Honor than it is in Overwatch though, this means that adding more gamemodes for the core competitive scene will add extra depth and strategy to the competitiveness.

In a MOBA it is ok for it to be focused on one gamemode because there is a lot of different characters that play different from eachother and there is a decent amount of character progression through a match while the maps are heavily focused in objectives, this means that there is enough depth with only one gamemode.

I don't think they should copy the gamemodes or the extact same system as it is used in Overwatch, but I think the idea of a single queue with different gamemodes that are objective based but are not extremely complex would be helpfull for the competitive scene of the game.

The devs have said that it is up to the players for the game to become and esport and have a competitive scene, but it is not that simple, if the game doesn't have a decent competitive system players will not go for it, and as far as I have seen I don't have much hope for it to have a lasting competitive scene. The art of battle system is amazing but if the devs don't use its advantages with good gamemodes it will not matter at all how good the combat system is. It is like they don't want to harness the potential of the game.

Please explain what non simple character would look like ? By having 30 sets of different key's with different abilities ? I didn't participate at beta but as far i could see in gameplays each class from each faction had different gameplay. Slower, faster, different combo atacks, different range, blocking ability, special skills (like raiders charge). Remember that with to complex characters players could get wrong experience from the game.

MOBA is wrong example (i don't know why everybody these times compare everything to moba or open world, even their milk). It's way different game mode. Why don't you compare it to star craft 2 ? Theres 3 factions with lot more units, with tons of maps, game modes etc. Sadly at most u can play 4v4

They don't need to add tons of different game modes. A few like 3 - 4 (exception of duel) but polished nicely would be good. When you add for a nicely done game mode a good map, which as well has been polished for best experience then it will 100% be better for players than 100 maps with 20 game modes where each of modes / maps are made fast just to be.

The simplicity is not that the characters are easy to use, or they are all used in the same exact manner, but all the characters are based on the Art of Battle system, the diversity with this system can only go so far, adding characters for this game will be hard, and the Dominion game mode is already a pretty simple, the game needs to have enough depth and strategy to have a decent lifetime.

I compare it to MOBAs because is the closest that there is to this game, that and shooters, it is that simple, the game obviosly has differences from MOBAs, there is no character progression in matches, which is an important part in the main MOBAs, the main game mode in MOBAs is usually extremely focused in objectives, etc. Starcraft has nothing to do with For Honor, you control several units, the map has no objectives but to kill your opponent, the main mode is 1v1, the only similar thing between those two games is that there is a 3 faction lore, that's it.

I didn't want to say in my previous post that they needed to add lot of game modes, since I was saying to use a similar system like Overwatch does, that means 2-3 game modes and several maps(3 or 4) for each game mode, and all of those game modes should be objective based.

I peronaly think, if it would go for a competitive scene the game modes played would be ither 4vs4 dominion or 1vs1/2vs2 duels. Probably dominion cos thats the core gameplay in multiplayer.

I would love a ranked mode. My goal for this game is to try a break into the competitive scene, even if it's just a ranked mode online, doesn't have to be esports lol

The closest game I got into competitive gaming was Smite for PS4 and in ranked matches, it limited to how many could be in a party and queue together. I suggest having a solo queue only. Either choose duel, and the modes the developers want to add, dominion or elimination. This will also force communication between strangers.

Also, including a reporting system will help against toxic players.
