PRO TIPS : Fighting against the Orochi

Here are a couple tricks to better fight the Orochi, by Alex “Pikalex” Laliberté, Dev Tester and also one of the best players on the team.

“He is a strong character, not easy to beat, you need to think like a samurai and carefully read and predict his moves. Also, you need to play more in a defensive way.

    Here are a few tips:

    - Protect your top stance! That’s where most of his attacks come from. That way it’s easier to block his side attacks
    - When he’s close to you, he will mostly do a light attack or a guard break, so be ready for that, and try to counter the guard break using X / Middle Mouse Button
    - One of his routine moves is to dodge and throw light attacks on the side. He will always attack from the side he dodges, so be careful about that
    - When you parry a light attack, it gives you time to throw a heavy one, so when he does his fast light attacks, try parry + heavy attack (M&K: to parry, press heavy attack in the moment of contact)
    - Try feinting attacks to trigger his revenge mode early (Heavy attack + B / Mouse Wheel Up or Down at the last minute), when it’s triggered, try to get away and attack when it’s over

The Orochi is not unbeatable but he’s very fast! You need to read his moves and think like a Samurai.

And remember, practice makes perfect. In the words of Miyamoto Musashi: You can only fight the way you practice!

Will the Beserker function best in a similar way to the way you just described for the Orochi? He's also an assassin, I was just wondering how close their fighting styles are from your experience?

PS Any spare PC friend invites would be appreciated, didn't get one myself.

Berserker fights very differently. They're usually in your face the entire time chaining attacks. They're absolutely relentless once they get going, whereas fighting an Orochi might provide some breathing space---which of course is not to say an Orochi isn't, but most Orochi players I've fought rely on their Storm Rush, and they have to dash away to hit with that (guard whichever side their sword ends up on and you're good).

The only thing to take from this guide against them is to guard your top stance. All of Berserker's dash attacks result in top attacks, so guarding top. However, you also need to be wary of your sides, since they can combo until either you're dead or they run out of stamina if they stick to alternating side attacks (and they can throw top lights in for good measure without ending the chain).

Sick, sounds like I'll really enjoy playing him, I love that in your face relentless style of fighting

Very nice tips, exactly as one should expect from Pikalex ^_^

I just hope his health and damage has been rebalanced to reflect his speed. Fighting an Orochi was a lot more punishing than fighting just about any other character

Thanks for these tips though they have me worried a bit. If a Ubi CM has to make a post on how to fight Orochi it might seem they are too powerfull.

Now hear me out, I'm not saying he is OP per se, but 2 types of people will play this. The Pro's and the rest. I'm sure a Pro with any other character can take on any other character.
Wether it is Orochi or not. But it seems if there is an incentive to explain how to fight a character otherwise you just get smoked... well that means most people who just play the game for kicks will get their as kicked each time making him seem OP at the least.

Not really sure if I am explaining myself correctly, but what I am saying is I believe Ubi-Gaidheal that Orochi can be beaten like any other character. But on the same hand the fact there is a feeling it needs to be adressed whilst not seeing this for other characters still makes it look something is off. Again I'm new to For Honor so I can't tell from experience, but just from reading posts all I hear is Orochi, Orochi...

    Orochi needs a buff

I see that alot of players are having issues with him but for my part as for fighting with and aginst him i find Orochi to need a speed buff he is already the fastest yes but his power is not there i would say the need to have more speed OR more attack i play the Kensei and have not yet lest a match to orochi as my sword has so much more range i controller the battle easy Orochi needs to be about to get under up close fast otherwish he will be sliced by a long sword or chipped up with the poll ax
