yes that crashes games that are graphically intensive as your forcing your GPU driver to do more then it can handle .. yes FC 4 is a very demanding game
and uses a heavily modified version of the dunia 2 engine
so yea alt tabbing can cause issues as well as your video driver having to reload what being drawn on your screen
do you have a super fast system ? with a ton o ram ?
if so contact Ubi support .. i bet they tell ya the same thing alt tabbing is not supported with this game due to the in game engine limitations
it eats alot of ram and vid ram ..as does your operating system .. and you never even said what OS you have ?
have you tried to install an older version of razer coretex ??
that program shuts off other un needed widows services you may have running in the back round
this game already hates back ground applications and yes its a known issue due to the limitations of the enhanced version of the Dunia 2 engine the game uses
yea its a system HOG
BACKROUND APPLICATIONS may also cause the game to not launch properly and you may need Exit out of them, or reconfigure them to work properly with Far Cry 4 known apps that can cause this are
A. EVGA PRECISION
B. MSI AFTERBURNER
C. Riva Tuner Statistics Server
D. DXtory
E. Motionin Joy
F. Anti Virus or Firewall software (AVG , Comodo, Bullguard etc.. <-- check settings)
G. MSI true Color
H. Evolve gameing client
I. AMD Raptr \ AMD Gaming Evolved
J. TeamViewer
K. Overwolf
L. Nvidia Geforce Experience Shadow Play as of Driver 361.75 in Jan 2016
see this thred to possibly fix issues with afterburner causing black screen
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...rcry-4-Crash!?
Please see this Page where it mentions Backround Applications and how you can try to see if one is possibly causing your issue with the game NOT starting or hanging

And if your running windows 10 make sure you launch both Steam and Uplay as Run As ADMINISTRATOR
this game was shipped well before windows 10 did ...and yes you may need to take that extra step to run the game
this games engine was created years before windows 10 shipped and that change may needed to allow the game to write any save files and or configuration files , windows 10 may handle file security \ permissions in a different way, then previous operating systems did.
if you have a problem... try this
right click on the games .exe file
select properties
select the comparability tab
check the box that says run as Administrator
set it to run in a windows 7 compatibility mode
you can also run the windows 10 compatibility trouble shooter from that same window
My system is more than enough to run the game:
32 GB of RAM (HyperX)
AMD R9 390X by MSi
AMD FX-8350 at stock 4.0 GHz speed
ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z
250 GB SSD 850 EVO by Samsung (This is the only drive in the system.)
Windows 10 x64 Professional
The issue temporarily resolved itself when I alt-tabbed to uplay first rather than other applications, or have uplay's window open. That said, even though I have only an SSD on my system, the game takes FOREVER to initially load. I have no background applications running save for Corsair, Steam, AMD Radeon Settings, Firefox, Discord and Windows Explorer. I do not use (and will never use) tweak programs such as afterburner or the EVGA one.
game loads quick here
i alt tab out all the time with no problems
but a much lower .cfg ..well higher as i have a better CPU even if it;s an older one it does have a 12 meg cache
you probably need to tweak the hell out of win 10 pro
i have the same OS (win 10 pro )
shut off the annoying x box app
(yes you have to log in with a Microsoft account to totally shut that crap off )
it eats ram like crazy
i also shut off all the metro apps and installed classic shell
i also use only SSD drives in my win 10 install
if i alt tab out to look at my system temps and cpu \ gpu loads all the time never had a crash doing so
i use open hardware monitor (great program) to see my system temps an loads
your problem most likely maybe your graphics card drivers
i use a nvidia GTX 960
dunno why your game takes forever to load ..but i do know AMD drivers do suck ..got rid of my last AMD card and was glad to be rid of it ...was a 270 X
as far as Uplay make sure its up to date
shut OFF the Uplay cloud sync option in Uplay settings \
\if ya have the steam version shut off the steam in game overlay i keep that off and only use the uplay one so i can use the in game fps counter
so if ya got a prob shut off the uplay one ..this game HATES OVERLAYS ..and backround apps
the only other tip i can give ya is yes i had a problem with Primal with my oldest AMD card
i contacted AMD support
they said remove all my AMD drivers in safe mode .. then reinstall them clean ..i used DDU
it fixed the game
also you should know even with the latest AMD driver it has problems with some games if you leave the AMD gaming evolved in game overlay crap on
thats even noted in the most recent AMD driver version release notes so make sure your up to date too with that ..its up to
- AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition Display Driver version 16.30.2311
never had a problem with the game crashing here with over 1000 hrs in (bought it the day it shipped)
