How to balance stats you want with cosmetics you want

So as most of us know, For Honor will have customizable armor and weapon pieces that not only change the appearance of you gear, but also give you stat trade-offs, i.e more attack power for less attack speed. While a lot of people, including me, are fine with this, I've seen some people upset at the idea of sacrificing cool-looking gear for the stats they want. I think there might be a solution to this that satisfies everyone.

Has anyone here played Trove? It's basically if Minecraft and WoW has a baby. The way they handle gear/skins in the game is when you get a piece of gear with a new appearance, it's added to your "library" of weapon skins, so you can equip gear with stats you like, then add your favorite cosmetic appearance on it. For Honor could benefit from a system like this. Say you got a new sword crossguard with some stats you don't really like, but it looks really cool. The weapon's "skin" is added to your collection, so you can replace your old piece's appearance without sacrificing the stats you like.

Thoughts? Comments? I'm curious to know what you all think. Thanks for reading!

There is a system implemented to adress this. All I dare to say about it cos it might be under NDA.

Sounds good to me ! i've often played MMO's and RPG's too that have very good looking armors and weapons that doesn't really have the stats i'm looking for, so if they could do as you explained - i'd be VERY happy about it

There is no information regarding this anywhere that I can find, from which source are you pulling from if you would mind?

Probably their experience with the recent Alpha. Not really sure saying 'there's a system in place' falls strictly under NDA because it's pretty vague, but it's skirting the line, at least.

Actually, not long after making this thread I saw a post on r/forhonor that basically detailed how this worked. Pretty sure that it broke NDA....

Link? Or has it been removed?

Personally I'm highly against stat-altering gear in competitive class-based multiplayer because it creates tons of balancing issues and community divisions of who has what unlocked and who doesn't. I think there should only be cosmetic altering gear, no stat, but if they decide not to remove it I agree with this suggestion. It seems they might already be implementing it from what I'm reading, though I wouldn't know since I do not have access to the alpha.

I agree with this because the game then becomes less about skill and more about who has optimized their stats the best.

A good player with high level gear who has optimized their stats vs an equally skilled player who has a random assortment of stats on the same character. The person with optimized gear is probably going to win most of the time because of a stat advantage.
