I like this game so far because its depending on real weapons, armors and tehniques that these nations used. Thats why I dont get the idea of samurai troops having shield because samurais didnt use them at all. While I was watching the gameplays it wasnt very useful for npc troops so why is it there??![]()

Overall this game isn't based in accurate history.
The samurai and other foot soldiers did use shields up until the Edo period. The reason why is because all of their fighting on the battlefield was done using two handed weapons like the spear or bow, in either case a shield wouldn't be possible without it being freestanding, and freestanding shields were still common among bowmen even into the Edo period. Unlike Europe, which was heavily influenced by Hellenistic nations such as Greece or Macedonia. The euros thought that using a shield was still effective on the battlefield especially in phalanx formations, just like the Greeks or Romans, however it wasn't much of a dueling device.
In conclusion, the samurai troops in this game do use a shield, which was only common until the Edo period, but they also use a katana-like sword, which was never used en mass in a battlefield like it is in this game. So they took some artistic liberties, turning two very uncommon uses in Japanese history into standard practice in this game.
This is true. While the shields in game appear to not be one solid piece of wood---unlike their historical counterparts---the shape, at least, is accurate.Originally Posted by Willaguy2010 Go to original post
