If the rumor is true that the reason why you can't switch genders for those classes is because they're the same people from the story, then that makes sense, but no less disappointing. If, however, it's a different reason like we don't want a fat female for the shugoki or a nimble male for the peacekeeper, then that's rather infuriating. Hopefully they'll end up letting us change these characters' genders later on.

As I posted in the other thread, I think we should just offer feedback on this during the upcoming Alpha. I feel like this is definitely something that could be worked on as post-release content.

As much as I would like new classes as post release DLC, I think they should go back first and make sure every current class is completely fleshed out and polished, which for me includes gender selection. It's just going to be weird going to the customization menu and for whatever reason a few classes will have the gender option greyed out. Gender would literally be the last customization option that I would skimp out on, but as stated above, it must be a decent amount of work. Lack of time has to be the reason for the inability to switch genders of the new classes.

Jason Vandenberghe and others kept repeating themselves everytime customization came up that gender selection was a thing. Obviously, I don't want to crucify the devs for something they stated in the past, but due to reasons ended up not being true. We need to give them some leniency. We get pissed when videogame devs don't interact with the community, but then we tear them apart when something they said publicly ends up being false. There are definitely reasons for this omission. I am even willing to bet that some work has been done on the other genders for these classes (concept art and such), but they had to drop it due to lack of time.

But yeah, just offer feedback in the upcoming test. Even guys like Patient_Fodder above who already have their preferred gender/class option in the game, I think I can speak for others and say that your support on this matter would go a long way to help us get the other gender/class options, even if it has to be as post-release content.

I rather get new heroes, maps, modes, or cosmetic options over them going back post release and making alt gender versions for the current gender locked heroes.

Then that is where we disagree, which is fine.

Edit: I would say, though, maps and modes are very important to the health of the game. So that is definitely something that needs to be constantly worked on. But I would rather they flesh out the existing classes fully before exploring new classes.

And I would put gender selection under the cosmetic options tab.

I plan on main Warlord, which luckly for me is male, but I really like the style of the Nobushi (the mask style and the clothes), but I am not going to play the character that much if I can't choose the gender.
They never said which or how many characters you could customize.

They only said there was some customization like skin color and armor but they never said anything farther than that. Also remember in 2015 the game was still in active development so alot of things have changed and may still change.

Actually, even in the most recent interview with Stephane, he specifically states that all 12 classes are fully customizable, including gender. The question is posed around the 3 minute mark:

But like I said, I don't think we should attack them. I like when devs interact with the community, and if we obliterate them everytime they mention something that doesn't pan out, we will stop getting communication from the devs altogether. Just look at Bioware for an example, the dudes who work there seem petrified of interacting with the community nowadays, whereas they used to post on their message boards constantly, lol.

I would love to hear that they are committed to bringing the remaining gender options to the game at some point in the future, though. That would be awesome since I think that was their original plan, but due to time they had to change it. Oh well, here' s hoping...

As this is not the case at the moment, I don't care, so I abstain.
But you do care, since if you could not play as a male warden this would be a problem for you, so obviosly you agree that both genders for every class is a good thing. Right?

I think the issue doesn't lie within the gender locked classes themselves but the backpedaling, misinformation, lying, or however you want to cut it.

E3's master class when customization was asked about specifically.
The reply was "yes, helmet, armor, weapons, skin color, GENDER..." they even received applause when stating "the female word for warrior is warrior".

I understand that's a lot catchier than "50% of our roster is unable to select their gender" which, hey, cool I think it should be there but whatever; were I on the spot in their shoes I don't think I would backtrack and correct myself either.

I've seen it stated a few times that the Lawbringer is actually Holden Cross so it makes sense it's only Male. To which I will direct you to the "how different characters will play roles" video in which Stephane says "these characters are ALL JUST TEMPLATES... ... you can change EVERYTHING about them from tattoos, armor, skin color GENDER"

That's 2 separate times it's been stated that yes this will be a feature available to players in the game. That is what bugs me.

    Exactly this.

Not sure if I want to go so far as saying they deliberately deceived people, rather I think they made a decision at a later stage in development, but the fact that we suddenly have fewer options than we did pre-Gamescom is annoying, at the very least, and made more so because there was very little-to-no indication that such limitation was present beforehand.

I've seen it stated a few times that the Lawbringer is actually Holden Cross so it makes sense it's only Male.
The idea that the Lawbringer was Holden---and so, would be justifiably gender-locked---was based upon speculation from something someone said in the Masterclass. This was then extrapolated to include the other Hybrids---i.e. we knew about Runa from the E3 footage, Jason named her in an interview, we speculated she was a class, combined with what we speculated about Holden, and so on; the presumed Samurai fourth it was speculated would follow this convention---but it was never a given, and it never included the other classes.

He says specifically 'Those twelve characters are just templates...' (3:01)

By customization I was talking about things other than gender, but yes I'd put it under the same tab. This is odd for me to argue, because I really just don't care. I'm happy with the options we got and a few heroes not having gender options doesn't bother me, and I think that's because I'm not the type of person who sees myself as the character, or at least I don't need to. Knowing that I'm never going to be convinced this is worth fighting over. I'd 100% rather have patches, maps, modes, other cosmetics, server updates, or really anything else before going back and adding gender options to a few heroes. I just think gameplay is king for me and I've got all the customization options I need so I'd rather see the finite dev time spent on something else. Some people naturally will disagree, but that's where I stand on the issue.
