Ghost Recon: Wildlands is hitting storefronts next year and is going to be Ubisoft’s biggest open world game. Stealth will be a major aspect of the game and players are free to play a true “Ghost.” However, keep in mind that stealth is just one option.
According to Ubisoft, they will be offering different tools to players that will allow AI manipulation. As a result, player will be better equipped to complete certain objectives without being noticed. Ubisoft will be sharing more about AI manipulation as we get close to release. But the developer confirmed that we can not complete the entire game without being noticed.
Our objective with Ghost Recon Wildlands it to create an open experience. We propose the objectives and let the players create their strategy. How they reach their objectives is in their hands. This has obvious consequences on how the AI in our game has to be able to adapt to the player at all time. Again, this is a topic we will cover into more detail as we get closer to launch, but I can already confirm that as a Ghost, you will be given a variety of tools, skills and ways to interact with the enemy (and potential allies…) in interesting ways. There will be instances where the player will have to expose himself (not in a sexual way, of course).
The Ghosts are sent behind enemy lines to create chaos and take down the cartel. As our key element of gameplay is the total freedom of choice we give players in their adventure, we always make sure that stealth, diversion, tactical action or full-on assault always remain possible. However, certain situations will require you to take down targets or expose yourself during the game.Ghost Recon: Wildlands is set in Bolivia where our Ghosts are trying to fight a drug cartel. Ubisoft’s focus is on solo and 4 player co op. So far we haven’t heard anything about PvP in Bolivia but we may know more about that is the coming months.
Wildlands is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 7, 2017. Ubisoft choose to remain silent about a possible PlayStation 4 and Project Scorpio port.

There is certainly one thing that we do agree on, GMT, I think. That is that to be tactical the situation and gameplay settings have to need tactical play to succeed.
Simply by the player choosing to play in a tactical style, when in reality rushing in carelessly with all guns blazing works just as well, is not a tactical game or setting.
You will have complete and total freedom of choice. I'm not sure why you think there is anything scripted that you have to follow.Originally Posted by ElphabaThropp Go to original post

Why not would be my first question... unless there are some scripts forbidding you from doing it?
If situations requires (more like UBI will force you) to expose yourself than this also means that there is no TOTAL FREEDOM OF CHOICE.
But then again, you guys have your own definitions of what those words means to you when it suits you.
Glad stealth is still a major part of the game, but not suprised that there will be some situations that force you to "expose yourself during the game." This is kinda Ubisoft's thing now, every game they make will have some kind of forced chase or action scene. Even Splinter Cell Blacklist, which was supposed to be THE stealth franchise out of all their IPs, forces you into action sequences.
I think there is a distinct difference between scripted ways to achieve a mission and the mission itself. The original had missions where it was inevitable that you'd be noticed.
Take the first mission in the original if you like. One objective was to take the rebel leader alive if you could, but he wouldn't surrender unless you had first killed all his guards. This is the kind of trigger point that was being referred to here and that is a mile away from a scripted mission. All games have trigger points in them as we are some years off a completely artificially intelligent real world simulator don't you think?
There is no such thing as complete stealth because eventually things will start going boom. Sneaking into a drug lab and blowing it up is stealthy until you blow up the drug lab or steal the drugs or kill the Cartel bosses etc. This is not Splinter Cell where your location hopping the team is raising hell inside Bolivia and cartels will notice these things.
