    Does anyone roleplay?

By roleplay I mean does anyone come up with a backstory and character for their agent? I realised I get far too caught up in grinding and loot farming with my original character, so I created a couple of extra characters with which to roleplay a bit. Apologies if these are lore-breaking stories but I liked the ideas:

One character I think of as a first wave agent who refused to join up with Keener and instead focused on surviving in the dark zone and helping people wherever possible. He fights Cleaners, Rioters, and Rikers as much as possible but is more cautious around LMB. He stays on the move all the time and has become something of a paranoid loner. He helps people on the street as often as possible too but has become wary of being drawn into a trap. I made him as hairy as possible with the idea that he had been living rough for some time, and I dressed him in the survivor cosmetic gear cause it seemed to fit! He uses an assault rifle and marksman rifle and has become used to picking off enemies from a distance, and is very much tech focused. I imagined him as a mechanic before he got the call.

My second character was a nurse and is quite nervous and overwhelmed by the idea of being the last line of defence for the city. He is obviously focused on medical, and is perhaps too easily distracted by helping civilians and giving aid rather than taking down Rioters. Rather than using any of the specialist cosmetic gear I tried to dress him in fairly normal looking civilian clothes. Rather than being dispassionate and professional he is too troubled by Keener and the first wave and is bothered by the idea of powerful agents operating with no accountability. I imagine he would be one of the second wave who would actually not make it and pay the price for neglecting the combat aspect of his mission, but that would obviously make for a very abridged playthrough! He uses an assault rifle and SMG (I'm terrible at making use of shotguns).

I don't role play but I do write and just to take a break from other things I started a bit of fan fiction this week so coming up with back grounds to characters is pretty much a must. The main character for this story isn't American, which creates a few tensions when dealing with Trump chump types.

Good question! I kind of expected to see a section for Roleplaying in the forums here, but I guess in a shooter-type RPG that's not really a priority for the community. If there is not an explicit back story given for the character in a game, I always end up making my own. It changes the way I play that character and look at the world they are running around in. I'm very new to the game, but I've already got two characters going. The first is for co-op with my buddies, so she's just a blank slate. Here is an example from my solo character:

So of course we are highly trained Division Agents. This guy just happens to be a bit more pacifist toward the citizens of New York as long as they pose no immediate threat to civilians. So, the first time I made it to the pit, I was a bit torn on just straight up murdering The Cleaners. When you show up there, you have no experience or idea of what their actual goals are. They just seem to be... well... cleaning up a mess. I made it about a third of the way down before any of them started shooting at me, and then it's just self-defense, so of course I shoot back. That all changed when you get to the second mission that involves them. They are going to drop a fuel tanker on a group of captive citizens? Yeah, **** those guys forever. Now I shoot them on sight. On the other hand, I still treat the random gangers in the streets with some kid gloves. Just this morning, I jumped cover to cover to sneak around a couple wandering red hoods. Unfortunately for me, after I got about a block away they turned around and saw me in the middle of the street. I had been messing with my inventory, so my loadout was crap, and when they got me pinned down they actually killed me. That was just those two guys though, so I'm still not going KOS to the gangs. It will probably gimp my character, but the whole point of a game is to have fun, and this is fun for me.

Good stories you guys, thanks for the good read!

Edit: strange.. in the reply screen there was another post in this thread, but it doesn't show on the live page...

I love writing and creating my own characters, especially in video game universes - it keeps me interested, so with my new character I recently started to try and get into the game again, I've been planning on putting together some kind of bio for him. All I know so far is that he's a retired member of the NYPD, and cares about the community and helping regain some kind of stability in the city. So he is taking it upon himself to lead the charge out on the streets. Outside of the regular missions he gets sent out on, he also patrols the streets for JTF squads in need of assistance and helps anyone that needs it, and aims to clear and secure one district at a time. He wears the NY Police set and/or the Hazmat set, and uses an MP-5 SMG and a Police M870 shotgun.

Yep I've been roleplaying my character since launch. I've envisioned him as a Ghost Recon operator that was sent in as part of the second wave of Division Agents to specifically determine why first wave agents were going rogue. That explained why he was given the most critical missions (i.e. the main story objectives) and how he was able to complete them operating independently of other agents (I play the game solo). He eventually unraveled everything and identified Bliss and Keener as the main targets.

It worked even better when the Ghost Recon vanity items were made available - fit perfectly with how I had been playing my character.

I personally do enjoy a good bit of roleplaying characters I have created, I've been doing it for about six years myself and the Division's world does seem an interesting place to make a roleplay setting (aside from a few complaints I have with it like the Customizations and the lack of stea)

For example, the current character I have is an retired army medic at the age of 56 outside of her live as a Division Agent, She's stubborn, no nonsense and often seems like a hard arse but she's got a good heart and a sense of value for human life -For those who deserve it at least-

She's also physically and mentally tough, she can lift a good few kilos than most people can and she can endure a lot of stress but her age sometimes slows her down and she can suffer a few more injuries.

And it boils me blood that I cannot put her in a roleplay setting because there's no roleplay section on these forums!

I always role play in video games. My characters don't always have a fully developed background, sometimes they are just an avatar, but in any game that has anything to do with leveling up, loot, cosmetic items, etc. I often role play.

I played most of the story missions in The Division with my friend, with whom I also play Ghost Recon. So I always see us as Ghosts. In this case, two Ghost Recon members who were sent to Manhattan to clean up the mess. Since it was far too late to play it nice with rioters, Rikers or any other factions, our job was simply to kill them. Take out their leaders, take out as many hostiles as possible and hand things over to the JTF once the situation is under control. We were basically hitmen for the government.

My character is a Ghost in his late 30s, veteran of Russia and Bolivia. Assault rifle and machine gun specialist and a ruthless killer. However, he is an idealist who will go out of his way to help any civilian in need. He has a strong sense of right and wrong and hates criminals. He is especially cruel to Rikers. He always takes it upon himself to rescue any hostages, find missing persons and retrieve any supplies that may help the people hiding in safe houses.

As for my other character, so far I only came up with a few details. I will jeep you posted. ;-)

I love a bit of roleplaying in my games. I got some police uniforms in the Div 1, i forgot how.

But since then, my main was a cop, until the call came.

She used to be in the military, then got out eventually only to join the police force. Then because of her previous service, and the ability to eat gluten , was tapped for the Division. She did well in the training she received, and with the fact she is a cop, had a practical reason to keep herself in shape and her skills up to par. As such she was there for much of the fall, even interacted with some of First wave, never acknowledging she knew some of them. And the at last the call came.

There's more of course, slight ptsd, ex girlfriend curious about that locked and coded box in her closet, and so on.

If i can i want to make a character much like her, maybe throw in a scar, curtesy of NYC. Possibly from that helo exploding at the end of the prologue….
