Just had a super surprise, playing a game I thought was only a sniper's game....! Neil Ricker likes prisons.. this is his second, and this time - an Outpost.
Having played most of the the early revisions, I didn't think it was possible to win by going in on the ground floor - (I usually grapple over the front entrance and snipe) and that's exactly what I just did this evening. With this map my testing showed "snipe was the only way" - but there are so many entrances to this prison, and any of them can give you a winnable game, either by getting all six alarms, or as I intended today - by Rambo!
At the rear of the prison, by the boat dock... and the tunnels..., there's a very convenient blue Shack Door, with a peep-hole, too, and so, prepared with the SA50, the Autocross, the big MG42 and the 1018 rocket launcher, I went through it, loaded for a Battle with the Bears - and instead - got all the alarms!!!!
There are a modest number of AI wandering around - the open ground is not free - and within the prison blocks are cells with convicts in them - but some also have the odd AI guy - often a Guard Defender (maybe a Heavy... or two..).. Nevertheless, they are not so plentiful that you will encounter more than one or two at the same time - but keep your eyes open. A triggered alarm will reward you with more AI than you think you have bullets for.
I was able to carefully move around, killing and de-alarming, and suddenly - I had all six done like dinner! Was I surprised - this was completely unexpected, given that this had been impossible five previous revisions ago.
To the first-time player - it may seem hard initially, but this is not a beginner's map - it calls for patience, good spotting, observation and shooting skills, and the right loadout. If you're having a hard time with it - just download the map and study it. Neil spent a lot of time honing this one, so give it a chance - learn the secrets of this prison, and you will be rewarded with game after game after game, full of different challenges, excitement and lots of adrenaline flowing!
Thanks, Neil, for creating a great map.
All the Best
