I'm really trying.
I love Far Cry 4. I haven't liked a game as much as FC4 since Age of Empires III, so it's been a while...
But this game I just don't get. Some troglodyte with alopecia grunts at me in a made up language that she will teach me about plants and gathering so I squat next to her at the campfire (cavefire?) and she grunts about 10 more "words" (which aren't translated) repeatedly for the next 20 minutes.
Okay, I guess I am supposed to wander around aimlessly killing/taming beasties and somehow figure out how to build a village (see? I really am trying.)
Is there a beginners guide or an explanation of gameplay/objectives?
So far this seems like a digital stone age Dungeons and Dragons. I never gave D&D a fair chance because I didn't get it (and no shapely fangirl ever asked me to play.)
Can anyone help me before I abandon the game altogether? I keep gathering stones the size of a small car and enough alderwood to build a Texas A&M bonfire. I have no idea if this stuff limits other items I can carry. (And alderwood might be used as an unfletched arrow for darting birds on the ground but that's about it weapon-wise.)
I have read the Wikipedia page and it doesn't really give me direction. I have tamed an owl, but I guess he was radio-controlled because he flew out of range and is probably menacing Washington D.C. airspace.
So soething that would get me going would be appreciated.
I don't know why your game isn't translated. On my game it started with English subtitles. You don't have to watch cutscenes without understanding what they are saying. Try going to the options menu, and see if English subtitles is enabled.
Heres a beginners guide.

Id also suggest watching a few gameplay walkthrough videos on youtube. Like this one.

At the beginning after you talk to the woman at the campfire, you go a search for green leaves for her. It should be indicated with a gold icon on the screen. Follow that icon. Then bring the leaves back to her for healing.
After that, open up your map, and set a waypoint on Tensay The shaman. That is your main mission.
You do not wander around aimlessly to "build" a village. That comes later. When the time comes you will see the village requirements. Open up the map and go over to the village part of the menu. You will see Sayla's Hut, find the materials to build it. They give you weapon/benefits. In order to advance the story you have to build huts for the character. If you don't know what to do, open your map and look for the gold icon.
Sorry i can't be of more help, but i am 9hrs into the game, and i can't really remember much of the beginning. I have it on PS4.
Here is the campaign walkthrough..

Thanks for commenting.
The problem was the map was zoomed in too tightly. I just left it at default and it took me close to 10 game hours before I stumbled upon the first quest from Sayla (well the second if you count gathering the green leaves for her.)
So I was totally directionless that entire time. My pack was pretty much filled with all the skins and I didn't know how to advance the game.
My subtitles are in English, but I find the characters speaking in a foreign language uncompelling and inconvenient.Often I am looking at something else on-screen when Takkar says something to himself that is a vital clue and I miss the subtitles. There's no way to rewind and catch it a second time.
Anyway, I'm on track now. Thanks.
While the choice of language was quite interesting, where I struggled was if I wasn't looking right at the screen, you know I couldn't like check my laptop or phone during a cutscene or after handing back an item in the question.
Its similar to how I feel when I've played games in other languages before and I must admit I wasn't a massive fan of it. It was interesting for the first 5 hours but after that it began to grow old I feel.
Yeah. I don't want to make this a "things I don't like thread" because there are haters out there that would complain if Ubisoft included a gold brick with each game.
But... There has been more then a couple of times when I thought I was just picking an item up and Takkar makes a comment to himself that I miss because I am watching to see if a cave bear is going to maul me or something. When you interact with a person you have to hit the "talk" key two or three times, so I know they understand the importance.
