Did you goes go to the gun range and shoot your M1A to check out the change in aim time? It's not what you think it is. I actually been using my SVD more cause of that. Yes it's lower damage, but I can put those shots out faster and onto the target from a distance with no issues.

I got a god roll G36 from a cache when I leveled up during a Normal mission. After that I ran a dozen hard missions and then this morning I ran 9 CM missions. You know how many greens I got to drop? None. Not a damn one. The weapons were all GS204 and worse then the items I already had. At least I got a couple upgrades from caches as I leveled up.

I liked the Underground idea but the loot, yet more RNG, Time Sinks, Resource Checks and Level requirements.

Why are the SMGs in the division equally devastating? Because we (agents) use armor piercing rounds. The proof is ingame. Aron keener uses 9mm AP rounds to kill the agents in the police academy.

The game does have serious balancing problems within each weapon category. I like how the px4 (type f) looks. Small but handy firearm - but the dps and soft stats are abysmally bad compared to a pf45 or a m9. Why should I use the px4? Every weapon within its category should have the same dps - handling and preference should decide.

The drops are ... well ... its too soon for my final verdict but the first two missions only gave me 169 / 191 items. The second one was on hard.
I understand what you are saying about ballistics. The problem I see with SMGs are there range. A sub, shouldn't hit harder than an AR after about 50 to 75 feet. The Aug is the only one I would think that would come close to the range of an AR.

Ally my weapons, (ARs, SMGs, MMR, LMG) are six digit damage output which isn't uncommon, but thanks to RNG, I also have close to 70% damage mitigation which is more than enough for PVE. I mean, the bots aren't that smart, just tanky, so this is where real tactics come into play e.g. higher elevations, flanking, using the environment (traps), etc.
On Hard, DPS wins the day. This starts to fall apart in Challenge. I'm a tanktician. I was tail end charlie and the tough dps guys were going down every time they were caught by shot gunners and snipers without smart cover, heals or bait. I can't tell you the number of times I was doing cover to cover forward to make mobs move away from their current cover or jump over to attack me. Those underground challenge mode NPCs are a really tough nut to crack and the flame dudes are nightmare inspiring.

When I say 'tough' DPS, they are better than 70% mitigation, lots of stamina, and lots of firearms.

I figured they would add Carbines to fill the void between the SMG's and the AR's. Nope.

The beauty of this is you can have alt accounts and focus on different things.

I have three of the four characters slots leveled and each one concentrates on a different build e.g. Tactician, DPS, etc. I had a fourth, but deleted her because at this point, even with the varied amount of RNG, this character became obsolete in my situation because the three other characters were all kitted out the way I wanted them, so she had hit a point where even the lowest gear wasn't even good enough to have her as a mule. The added stash size is also another reason I deleted her, too...

umm.. no.. that depends on the AR.. a 7.62x51 is much larger round then pistol rounds and is a very common caliber for AR, BR and Marksman Rifles.. Only when dealing with weapons such as the 5.56mm that you get into small caliber but as you said much faster round.. 2700fps 5.56 is going to do much great damage then a 1000 fps 9mm

It depends on the weights and the speed.

Tbh .. it does not really matter. The 7.62 mm round simply is overkill. There is a reason 9mm is still in use. A mp5 in close quarters will turn you into goulash - the amount of rounds will liquefy you - ap rounds will turn your body armor useless.

The simple fact is, that the division takes place in close quarters and it is still a game, that needs balancing.

I get the feeling that the majority of people in this game that are unhappy, are such because the game doesn't rain the best gear out there on a nearly constant basis. Any gear that falls at a level equal to or worse than what they've got, is nearly unacceptable. I feel like people lose their **** if they don't feel themselves upgrading on a near constant basis. I'm not sure what people want. Is this a race to see who reaches invincibility fastest? Is the goal to gear up so high and so fast as to render the game a cakewalk every time they fire up the game? Serious questions. I'd like to understand. Is the goal to become competitive? More proficient? Or an outright god and remove any element of challenge?

I am not asking for instant gratification. A progression forwards would be nice. I would think I should at least be able to solo the Daily HVTs by now! I struggle with the level 31s, and the level 32s, it is like the DZ with out the loss of exp, funds, and loot.

I know some Jack o Matic will say. MM looser, or get good. What ever floats your boat might sink my ship.

When a 163 Socom M1a is the best weapon I have, because everything else is junk. There needs to be some changes somewhere!
