So I just fired up the underground and completed my first mission, I did it solo and it was easy but thats not what I am disappointed about.
I checked the rewards vendor and at the top of the list is a brand new Paratrooper SVD marksman rifle with GS 229. This rifle costs 956 phoenix credit and requires underground rank 40 to purchase. My initial thoughts was "omg new weapons SWEET, im sick of this 204 socom m1a would be nice to try something different". Obviously I cant purchase anything so I better start grinding my rank up.
I check my new misc loot bag because in the very first underground mission I did, I got a yellow cache to unlock. I unlock it and "OMG I JUST GOT THE PARATROOPER SVD]!! AND ITS RANK 229!" time to upgrade and get rid of this 204 M1a... right!? NOPE I check my 204 m1a and it has over 10k more base dmg per bullet, more RPM, more accuracy, and higher reload speed, the same stability but less range. Yes I removed all the mods from the m1a to get a proper comparison.
Are you kidding me? Why on earth has the stats for weapons/gear not been addressed, lower GS item continue have more base values then higher GS items. Or did the DEVs just make more useless gear?? Despite going another bracket up FINALLY from 204 - 229 and it being a BRAND NEW marksman rifle, that I would have had to grind alot of underground exp and spend 956 phoenix credits, Im still left with under powered junk and my motivation to hit more underground went from 100 - 0... Lets see if this continues... but wow talk about a bad first impression....
Final nail in the coffin? Just about.....
Balancing is super hard.
For some reason, Massive is married to this idea of making certain activities always reward certain things. The Underground is going to get lame really fast with how tiny the Cache loot table is and how many you can get in a relatively short time. If drop tables included all the weapons in the game, your odds of getting rank 40 required weapons in the first 15 minutes of the DLC would be a lot smaller.
In before someone posts about hitting rank 12 with all 4 of their characters today and how they have 3 sets of full 268 and 11 3/3 G36s
This is absolutely ludicrous... If the new DLC cant even give upgraded items / stats with an increase in GS... why am I playing this "loot driven" game? The loot is terrible! lets see how the vocal minority defend massive/ubisoft on this one. Im happy to provide screenshot comparisons of the weapons if I can figure out how.
I have a feeling (hope?) they do with Underground what they did with the DZ and that is add ranks, gear and weapons up to 99... Even if it takes the next two DLCs to complete?
This is different from moving the goal posts because this will give many players an actual goal because unlike the DZ, they can't lose rank, or progression unless they chose to e.g. just don't play enough in time for the vendor restock. Plus, they will be getting loot in the process... The whole point of a loot-based game.
I also agree, however, they need to reign in the overlap and RNG of gear and weapon tiers so a 228 weapon really is better than a 204, etc.
They keep increasing the GS of the DZ and the NPC lvls, whilst nerfing DPS output, and providing new content, brand new weapons with higher GS that dont increase your actual power dmg. They need to reign this is before they touch anything else.Originally Posted by R1_DMG_LLC Go to original post
No they don't fire bigger bullets. Actually, most ARs fire with a very small calibre - smaller, then most SMGs (except the mp7). The speed of the projectiles are higher though and that's, where physics get important.Originally Posted by iGodKingpin Go to original post
Why are the SMGs in the division equally devastating? Because we (agents) use armor piercing rounds. The proof is ingame. Aron keener uses 9mm AP rounds to kill the agents in the police academy.
The game does have serious balancing problems within each weapon category. I like how the px4 (type f) looks. Small but handy firearm - but the dps and soft stats are abysmally bad compared to a pf45 or a m9. Why should I use the px4? Every weapon within its category should have the same dps - handling and preference should decide.
The drops are ... well ... its too soon for my final verdict but the first two missions only gave me 169 / 191 items. The second one was on hard.
I know. I'm the one who kept posting Tanktician was developed to survive the tougher NPCs in DZ05 and DZ6. It was not meant as a PK / Griefer weapon, but just so happened to have that side-effect of nobody being able to kill one another in the DZ.They keep increasing the GS of the DZ and the NPC lvls, whilst nerfing DPS output, and providing new content, brand new weapons with higher GS that dont increase your actual power dmg. They need to reign this is before they touch anything else.
On a related note...
I just got a G36C Military from a Underground cache. 25% armor damage with two so-so talents, but the third free one is a new one: Focused -- Weapon gains 13.5% more damage when skills are not active (in cool down). So, basically, any time you use skills you don't get a buff, but then again, using Pulse, or Smart Cover is going to make up more than 13.5%, so it's basically more DPS all the time even if by a little? Speaking of DPS...
I decided to do a 4-Sentry build, 2 Final Measure for Underground.
Why?
Because it's a DPS-centered set. I know, Toughness is the new meta, but this is PVE, not PK. So, you can actually use cover and real tactics. Ally my weapons, (ARs, SMGs, MMR, LMG) are six digit damage output which isn't uncommon, but thanks to RNG, I also have close to 70% damage mitigation which is more than enough for PVE. I mean, the bots aren't that smart, just tanky, so this is where real tactics come into play e.g. higher elevations, flanking, using the environment (traps), etc.
SVD and all its variants were doomed from the start to join the class of DMR's that no one will ever use, you know the SCAR-H and Police MK17 or whatever its called. At least those low damage DMR's have a 20 round mag default, who the hell wants to have a completely inferior gun to the M1A, lower everything but range and whoopty do to that stat.
Hell just comparing my 204 First Wave M1A to the 229 SVD at the vendor, my M1A does 20K more damage base at 48k compared to the measly 28k of the SVD. Unless the SVD has zero recoil, zero sway, and zero spread/bloom when aiming and firing why the hell would myself or anyone want to use this piece of junk.
I'm sure Massive are going to look at "there numbers" and nerf all the "popular guns" yet again, and its because all the sh** they give us is just that. I'm sure once they "balance" the G36 that thing is going to be another unused turd just like the M416 and all its variants.
