I think you are the 1st... I also tried it after I got donkey fully upgraded, didn't manage to get there.

Has the route potential to be timesaver if done perfectly?

definitely Yes, if lucky enough to done it perfectly cause on top platform you just have to run straight to finish line unlike the moving platform below
