My Farcry4 was working fine until a few days ago, now I get weird lag when I try to do things like access a treasure chest, save a game, or when a menu/title pops up.
Its just about unplayable now..
Was there some sort of update or uplay update that may have messed things up?
I have tried new and old video drivers with the same result.
no lag here so its on your end man ...
make sure you exit any and all background applications ..also check your antivirus settings ..if your running windows 10 check your settings
i still use Nvidia driver version 359.06 with an ASUS Strix GTX 960
ever since Jan 2016 i had nothing but problems with all Nvidia driver updates with My Strix GTX 960 ..so i stuck with the last ones ASUS posted .. they work fine even in newer games like Far Cry Primal
I resolved my issue by reinstalling the game and/or starting a new game. I did both so not sure which fixed it. Maybe it was a corrupted save file or maybe my save file was too large I have been playing constantly since Febuary![]()
Although I swear the newest drivers dont run farcry4 as well as the older ones. My settings are the same, and it seems like stuff pops in alot nearer to the player than it used to too. Not sure, I a m still testing my settings. I am running a 970 GTX and one thing I have noticed is that the nvidia website for farcry 4 settings is wrong about Soft Shadows. They say that soft shadows has less impact than Ultra shadows, But soft shadows kills about 20 frames. Maybe SLI would be ok..
I have tried these settings and they seem great for me, all but the soft shadows anyways.

PCSS soft shadows will kill your FPS
set em to high or Ultra to get your FPS back
they changed in patch version 1.8.0 and cause a huge performance Impact ..they were initially busted for SLI users when the game shipped
i dont use any of the nvidia BUSTAGAMEWORKS CRAP ... more on the problems that created can be found here
https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...-in-far-cry-4/
Nvidia godrays will even crash titan X cards ..see pages 14 - 15 of that thred on the Nvidia driver website

also i installed Razer Cortex it does seem to help with this game ..you may want to try it ..it really DOES work to boost your FPS in this game and Far Cry 3
http://www.razerzone.com/cortex
and dont get me started about the CRAP nvidia has been releasing as Drivers since Jan 2016 ..hence i still use 359.06 from last year ..hell Asus wont even post any of the newer Nvidia drivers on their site anymore for my Strix of the GTX 970 or 980 Strix models
i stayed clear of the newer drivers ever since the bugs i had with 361,75
it was detecting my ASUS Srtix GTX 960 as a removable USB device , and many reported the shadow play bug was causing several games to fail to launch (FC4 included )
Nvidia admitted the shadow play bug was a problem in the driver set in both 361,75 as well as 361,91
and said it would not be fixed until the next Major driver branch
see these posts on the Nvidia forums
https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...99823/#4799823
https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...15747/#4815747
the 361,75 drivers also and all drivers past that point keep installing Nvidia backend on my windows 10 install even if i choose not to install Gefroce Experience or any other Nvidia software ....plus it installed Nvidia optimus software on my desktop system .. ??
optimus is only used on laptop systems to switch between an onboard intel HD video chip to an Nvidia GPU .. my quad core CPU does not have ANY intel HD vid chip on it ..so that was another bug in that driver set i guess ??
the next driver they released was 362,00 but that even said in the release notes .. there were no fixed issiues in the drivers for Windows 7 , 8 or 10
plus many people have reported alot of problems with the current Nvidia driver version 364.51
see
https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...10-16-updated/
and 364.47 was so bad they had to pull the driver set as it was damaging peoples systems
so i'll wait to see what Driver ASUS posts for my card ..right now they only have the 359.06 drivers posted .. and its kinda weird since they waited till febuary 2016 to even post that driver
Nvidia released that driver version in December 2015 .. but the Nvidia driver package is a smaller version then the one on the ASUS website..which is also very odd...
Geforce experience is still a beta program and the few times i tried it ..it did set my games up wrong anyway ..so i never install it ..dunno why they keep pushing that with every driver version ..i always do a custom install and Never install that or any of the Nvidia 3 d vision software
to use the 3d vision you need a supported 3d monitor as well and the Nvidia 3d vision glasses and Kit.
i own none of that ... so i never install it
i choose custom install and only install
the video driver and control panel
HDMI audio - in case i want to watch a movie on my 40 inch HDTV online
and Nvidia physX
the rest i uncheck .. then choose perform a clean install
and i always use DDU in safe mode to wipe my previous drivers ..before i install or try a new one
and for now 359.06 works the best for my GPU ..work fine in Far Cry Primal too
Also here is some more useful info for tweaking this game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfil.../?id=408206763
I did my own testing and I have found that the blurry mortar/scope/camera bug is specifically caused by a combination of settings in the GamerProfile. If you set LightingQuality to anything over "high" at the same time as ShadowCinematicQuality being set to anything over "low" this causes postprocessing to flip out.
Here are my settings and its working as it should.
