Why would you need all this when this isn't a PvP game (at least not according to intel we currently have)?Originally Posted by snoopyau Go to original post

Server browsers, private dedicated server software, ranked games, filters, voting... None of this is needed unless the game includes an adversarial PVP mode. No information has been released regarding this yet, so there's not a HUGE point in talking about it right now. Rest assured though, those of us that were invited to Paris to see Wildlands before it was revealed at E3 last year talked with Yves Guillemot (the Ubisoft CEO) over breakfast. One of the lengthy talking points was about multiplayer technologies (in general, not just for Wildlands) needed to be vastly improved for games featuring competitive PVP modes. Private dedicated servers, server browsers, filters, etc was all talked about at length.
Ubisoft is aware of these things. It's in their hands to start implementing it again.
As for the other stuff, FOC slider, TrackIR, Crossfire/SLI/Multi-monitor, etc features are all definitely something that the Wildlands team should look into. I'm always a huge advocate of games pushing technologies like these.
Well, they just need to pull some old software out of their hats. GRAW2 had an excellent dedicated server technology, until GameSpy started capping bandwidth since the game became older, and less people played it. Of course it was not perfect, but still today, it is one of the best dedicated server implementations I have ever seen in my over 20 years of gaming. Maybe even the best. It actually beats BF4 dedicated servers by 100, in ease of use, stability and optimization. Back then we could play cross continents if people had decent private connections, without any lag fest.Originally Posted by Cortexian Go to original post
The best thing, the dedicated server was on the dvd with the game, so if you had a good connection at home you could setup your own servers. We also tweaked the server files to an extent that the maps loaded up 30-40% faster.
Naaa, I have lost all hope with Ubisoft. They are clearly not interested in dedicated server technology, since they don't see the benefits for the console market, and spending $ on this for PC platform only, is probably too expensive in their calculations.
They might actually not be wrong on that either, as it is likely the multiplayer technology is built into their game-engines, and those are costly to develop. Hence we will continue to see "console" solutions on PC from Ubisoft.
I hope I am wrong!
Agreed. I never viewed GR as a PvP platform since the first game was released. The game was always about the campaign with a secondary emphasis on coop and pvp. This was very clearly seen in the GRAW series where the game engine used for coop and pvp was different (almost seemed GR2-ish) compared to the refined engine used for the campaign.Originally Posted by Deputy_Grant Go to original post
At this point I'd pay for a remaster of GRAW/GRAW 2 multiplayer with all the DLC.
The previous Ghost Recon's, minus future soldier, were huge games with great campaigns, great co-op, and great PvP.
That's what I want to see ubisoft strive for. I want to be able to host my own lobby again like I was able to in GR2 through GRAW 2. I want to be able to fully customize my own lobby. I want to be able to choose whether to do PvP in my lobby or jump into a giant map and do PvE like previous ghost recons.
Anything less and I am going to be seriously disappointed.
