DPS and weapons damage is messed up

I have two GS183 weapons with similar talents on is an AUG 146K DPS and one is the FW AK 105K DPS. The AK has a lower damage per round, rate of fire and therefore DPS rating I have the 3 pieces of striker so I get great critical damage but the AUG is not as effective as the lower rated AK. They both have 57 rounds in the magazine but I can kill a yellow 32 with my AK and little less than two mag and the AUG barely takes off the armor in two mags. I know everyone is running around with either the AUG or the Vector and I do not understand why the disparity. I have switched mods from one to the other with no change Any ideas.

Accuracy makes you DPS go up, but the damage per bullet stays the same.

Also, I think forum member Riyact said something like AR's has a higher base Crit hit damage than SMG's.

The game tries to take the accuracy stat on your weapon and simulate misses to hits and calculate your dps when in fact the accuracy is far more dependent on the user. Therefore mods/talents that increase accuracy tend to greatly inflate your projected DPS. Just remember that number is projected. It will always behoove you to head to the shooting range and come up with your own samples for how your preferred weapons fire at different ranges and what their base dmg/crit dmg (body)/base HS/Crit HS on your own for truely comparing weapons.

This, and optimal range, SMGs have much lower optimal range then ARs.

In-game DPS value is flawed due to its calculation. You also need to take into consideration weapon talents that can significantly improve weapon performance even if those talents have no direct impact on DPS calculation--Destructive, Responsive, Competent or Ferocious all increase damage dealt under certain conditions but have no impact on your calculated in-game DPS. You also might want to consider various weapon mods for various weapons and also how you use those weapons.

Accuracy is inflating DPS, especially in-game calculation is giving too much weight to accuracy stat, however, there are legitimate reasons to mod accuracy on certain weapons. Certain weapons have only vertical recoil, e.g. SCAR L or LVOA-C, therefore, you can easily use stability and accuracy on your underbarrel handle, which will improve bullet spread and reticle bloom--keep in mind you have no other stat in this mod and using horizontal stability would be waste. You want to have some accuracy on your M1A unless you have Capable talent on it, which requires skill power build.

Some people also prefer bit of accuracy on SMGs, who have rather large bullet spread from the start, which improves their ability to land headshots quickly.

Accuracy is also treated differently when modding SMGs, DMRs or ARs.

At the end, you need to get your own feeling for the way weapon handles and how it performs. Only later you should turn into mathematical calculations to tell you what is better.
