Camera Control + Art of Battle

Hi forum, haven't been here in a WHILE. Can't remember/know if this issue has already been adressed but still:

This is a simple one. It is obvious (from the footage you have shwon us at least) that you are too focused to the player you are facing. Yes you should and have but you still have to be aware of your surroundings, both enemies and environment. So the idea is to have a button (L1 for example) to use the art of battle instead of only the Right Stick. Meaning: L1 + Right Stick in the direction you want to put in said combat position. And using only the Right Stick would rotate the camera like every other game. By now I think you guys from the Dev Team have addressed this but it doesn't hurt writing this thread also just in case this passed by you guys like a fly that you heard but didn't see(something is not right, where is it? kind of situation)

Edit: I didn't know this was a HOLD situation. I thought we just locked the camera by pressing L2 and then L2 again to unlock and freely move. That said, This thread should be taken down. Because holding down L2 makes you really commit to that duel which is also really cool and if you want to change targets just release L2 control right stick and L2 again. Its simpler than i thought xD sorry guys for the thread.

I think this should be reversed---as in only using the Right Stick would use the AoB, and L1+Right Stick would rotate the camera---simply because you need to be focused on your opponent more than the environment, since they're an immediate threat, and holding two shoulder buttons just to do that seems cumbersome. It would be much easier to keep L2 held (to focus on an enemy), and when there's a moment to breathe (like their stamina runs out), quickly hold L1 and glance around to make sure you aren't being flanked.

    It's a great suggestion, though.

    That's an awesome idea!

Wouldn't it already be as effective to not map camera movement to L1? If you're not holding L2, you can already glance around. Unless I'm misunderstanding this...

I think another adjustment could be mapping the camera movement (while in focus mode) to clicking the left analog. This way you won't need to flex any fingers around so it'll be the quickest and safest method for players. Currently in combat and want to check your sides? Just click and flick your left analog around. His stance will be the last one prior to clicking the analog.

I meant that you keep L2 pressed---so you stay locked on your opponent---but that pressing L1, instead of controlling weapon position, the right stick would control the camera, so the moment you let go of L1, you'd snap back to the person you were locked on to, and would immediately be able to defend effectively.

Does clicking the left stick while locked on to someone do anything currently? I only ask because it's mapped as 'Sprint'.

I also think it would be a tad awkward clicking and moving the stick at the same time.

Ahhhh, I understand now. Yeah, that would also work well!

I'm personally a bit worried that it might not be easy for some players like myself because we don't put our middle finger on the triggers. I would have to flex my fingers around or relearn how to hold a controller.

Pffffft, I'm a dummy! xD I meant RIGHT analog stick. Click and flick the RIGHT analog stick around.

I think this wouldnt be an issue. I am like you, my middle fingers are only use for "**** OFF" situations xD But Holding a button with the middle finger is easy. if you have to press it fast its kind of tricky but you learn it with time and easier than you think. its a matter of mind set mostly and then you just adapt. Life MGS games which change The X and O functions. O for Accept and X for Back. You think not(if you havent played) but its an issue xD at least after a while in the beggining you are like "NOOO, I WANT TO ADVANCE!" xD

And for you guys that are talking about L2, I didn't know this was a HOLD situation. I thought we just locked the camera by pressing L2 and then L2 again to unlock and freely move. When I played the demo despite the controller scheme saying Hold for guard mode I didn't need to hold it at all, I just pressed the trigger and it worked. Maybe they've changed it?

it was an alpha that you played so it might have been buggy or changed, who knows. and hopefully the control scheme will be customisable. lucky you to be at E3
