When you say 'put in the work' where does that stand when most of the top tier players have glitched and cheated there way to the top putting a lot of players at a great disadvantage. Its okay saying this if it was on a level playing field but its not.

If people were ahead of you legit, would you be ok with losing then? How do you identify whether someone has glitched and who hasn't when you die?

Level playing field is a myth you tell yourself to feel better and remove confusion about why you lost.

It seems to be tossed out when somebody wants to diminish the experience or opinion of another member of the community. If something is said about an aspect of the game that I excel in where as the other player does not. Not saying I excel because I have an advantage. It could simply be a matter of talent but since I would have tossed out the "Git Gud" response then any statement I make from that point on deserves little to no consideration. It is like a blanket denial.
It is just another way of insulting the other person by essentially saying the are only unhappy because they suck. To say so requires to information on your part. For all you know they might even game professionally but since you don't want to factually justify your position you simply insult them and insinuate that they are just no good. I'd be happy if the Moderators simply warned people for the use of that idiotic statement and then the next time suspended their account. It's a toxic term used to divide the community purely based on fallacy.

I have a 210 GS and have killed plenty of people in the DZ. I also have been killed plenty of times. I'm OK with being killed. I just have a problem with the hackers on PC.

What I notice about the majority of people who use the phrase tend to be not very good themselves. As someone said, the odd are always in their favor. Place them in an actual competitive environment and they complain and hola.

These forums are a great example, when people complain about the PvP in the DZ, the majority want a more competitive level playing field, but the "git gud" crowd will twist and create excuses to why it should stay the same, even though it's been clearly explained.

Meh, I often find the git gud crowd annoying but I still think the article is wrong.

Polygon was a complete idiot for hiring someone who doesn't know AND play games well. Seriously, who cares about the opinion of a "journalist" who doesn't have any basis for comparison? You have to know the game inside out and at least some other similar games to write an accurate and useful review.

That said I don't mind casuals/noobs when I'm playing with them. I actually often find them more interesting to play with because they don't use cookie cutter builds and the same tactics over and over again.

So I never tell noobs to git gud unless they are writing reviews for a website...

The other thing you are not considering (or did not bring up) is those of us who identify as so-called hardcore gamers have a different set of skills, standards and experiences we judge things and non-hardcore gamers by. Meaning, the way the Polygon guy played DOOM... Is probably how the majority of non-gaming "casuals" play games, but we just don't realize it because we are beyond that level.

This actually goes along with my Humane Game Design statement I made earlier.

Players of all skill levels should have a right to enjoy a game however they want. If somebody is bad at shooters, gets killed easily when many of us more experienced gamers would have avoided it, but they love the story and continue to play until the last level... Who are we to judge, or say they aren't enjoying the game just because they aren't playing the game the way we would?

This is part of the problem with the PVP vs. PVE crowd, too.

For some reason, certain PVP players think playing against "brain dead AI" is not fun. Some PVEs like the fact they don't have to deal with toxic people when playing PVP. Neither is right, or wrong.

The problem of "get gud" comes from when one side... mostly PVP... Tries to insist they are playing (and having fun) in a game the "right" way when there is no right, or wrong way to have fun, ironically. It's also an ego issue primarily because a lot of the "get gud" comments are from angry teens and 20somethings who tie their identity with online gaming against others and is just a sign of immaturity, and nothing else. This is why I don't give any credence to all the "get gud" cheat beaters and trolls who post on the forums acting like they are God's gift to gaming... Especially when trying to defend the unbalanced PK that goes on inside the DZ.

    Speaking of the DZ...

This is a prime example of anti-Humane Game Design to a tee.

It punishes "casual" players, it rewards griefing and harrassing other players and as a result, has driven a majority of the player base away.

This is also why this is a toxic community; it attracts very immature and antisocial players who are odds with the more mature (mentally) players who want to like other aspects of the game, but the devs keep pushing it on them because it is there one-trick pony for the time being.

I am confused. This forum has the fewest "git guds" of any gaming forum I have been on in a long while. Last gaming forum I was on was Destiny, and man was it way, way, beyond anything seen here.

My only thought is that when people suggest such things as adapt to the game, oversensitive players see it as "elitist" arrogance. They read it as "git gud". Thing is you do need to adapt, whether you play 2 hours a day or 2 hours a week. This isn't Diablo, WoW, Destiny, CoD or whatever. A new game requires a new approach.

Honestly the only time I recall seeing the phrase "git gud", it was used by Sniper-whatever regarding DZ safehouse sellers. Was funny cuz he was't aware himself what they were selling.

Anyhow, my 2 cents, probably worth less than that,

Your opponent outnumbers you 4:1 or 4:2. Maybe even 8:1 or 8:2. How do you git gud when you join a team of people you don't know in real life so you're not 4:1 or 8:1..and then they kick you from the party, and THEY kill you? How do you git gud when your assailants only ever attack from behind with their superior builds and numbers, with their specials all popped and you're dead before you can count to 1?

The single biggest problem is the crowd of people telling others to get better, when a specific avenue to do so doesn't exist. You keep telling people what they need to do, without providing any framework for getting there. "You suck on your own. So, you must get better on your own. That's all I've got for you." The community aspect of this game...is nonexistent. I've never seen that in a game. Even the community provided for players of the game, is an anti-community. Everyone's gone rogue...even on the forums. It's not about how to improve everyone's abilities at the game...it's about "**** you scrub. This is my game. Git gud." I've seldom across my life time witnessed less empathy and less understanding in anything than I have with this one game. It really is a remarkable experience, because it really shows you just how little many people care about anyone but themselves. Instead of everyone enjoying the game, it's a portion of the crowd ensuring that the rest dont' have fun...and having their own fun by doing it. It's crazy.
Yea its pretty damn ****ty. One of the reasons I stopped playing, I refuse to cheat or glitch and don't have the time to grind for HE loot since I have a life besides online gaming. So When i'm in the DZ doing my thing and get back raped and then told to 'Get gud' buy ppl who glitched or put in hundred of hours in game it gets old fast. Typical mentality of the online community and its ****ing sad.
