    Lets talk SMG base damage

    Dear Folks,

since im living in a country where you can't get a firearm easily I'm not really familiar with real life weapon shooting.

Whatsoever I think I kinda understand how things work. And "The Division" is kinda bafflling me. While the weapon handling is pretty neat (at least I think so) I am highly confused why the base damage from SMGs is mostly at the same level with ARs.

AFAIK SMGs mostly use small calibers like 9mm while ARs using 5.56 oder 7.62. So I don't really get why SMGs base damage is equal to ARs? Maybe I am missing something here but comparing those two types I would assume that on a point blank shot the 5.56 or 7.62 is incredibly more devastating than a 9mm.

Wouldn't it be more realistic if SMGs have a lower base damage? (i.e. AR 182 at 2500 firearms with no mods == ~10k base - SMG 182 at 2500 with no mods == ~6-7k).

What do you think? I am always eager to learn something - as I said I'm not really familiar with shooting weapons IRL.

    Thanks & Regards! (:

PS.: I'm not a native speaker so please don't judge my english to hard. :D

A 9mm subsonic round is just as deadly as a 7.62 in the SMG's effective engagement range. What sets them apart is effective range.

No, one shot can kill, but most often it doesn't. You keep shooting until you are sure.

Not really. Body Armour does well against 9mm rounds and in this game we have body armour. A 5.56 and 7.62 at the kind of ranges we play at in the game wreck body armour. Some 7.62 machine guns can (on sustained fire) punch through older tank armour. There are no 9mm submachine guns doing that no matter how many rounds you put through it regardless of range.

However, this is a game and some level of balance has to be attempted.

    Hello again,

I just wanted to mention that this is not intended to be a "nerf"-thread. I just want to discuss weapon handling with people that have actual knowledge with those type of guns.

It's all about your opinions (:.

    Regards

At close range, excluding body armour, 5.56 and 7.62 are vastly more devestating, however, its a bit like getting hit by a car at 100mph or 120mph. Ether way you are FUBAR.
The 9mm does more than enough damage at close range to wreck you and the .45 round of the vector is even nastier.

because SMGs being much better than all the other guns is balance....

Didnt say it was, but you cant have the massive divide in the game that you would see in real life. Its not the base damage of the SMG that unbalances things, its the critical hits. Plus the SMG damage is offset by its lack of range.
