I was able to get through the fact that my level 33 save has been wiped (still didn't get a single reply BTW), but why the hell does the game need access to my contacts, when I want to buy a Corny Corn? If I deny it, I can't buy the freaking acorn. Why do you need my contacts? What will you do with my mother's, father's, friends' phone number? Tell me why do you need it so desperately, that you don't let me progress with the missions? I guess you needed them in the past too, but with newer versions of Android, it asks for permission, when I reach the part, where it's needed. You have my location data, my name, but what do you need my contacts for?

I don't think the game ask for reading or writing the contacts. It only asks for reading an account.
The operating system simply shows up the "Allow access to contacts" pop-up window because the Read Accounts permission is part of the Contacts permission group.
Even if you grant the access using this pop-up, the game only gets the requested permission (to read the account information).

Maybe it's possible to only ask for access to read accounts (and not using permission groups). But probably defining a permission group is easier to implement. I don't know. I am not an Android developer. Google recommends to explain why an app needs a specific permission and provides a system function for that. It looks like a lot of developers doesn't know that or are to lazy to implement it..

Thanks for the replies. To be honest I don't really care what they do with my data, because if they really want it, they will get it, (Google knows everything about me and everyone else with social accounts and such) I just got mad, because when I first installed the game on my new phone, it was able to recover my level 33 rider, but after a few tries at a slot machine challenge, the whole save got wiped, and I was back at the beginning of the game at level 0. I opened a thread about it, but after 17 days, nobody replied to it. And when I tried to redownload the game again, it could no longer download that save, so I had to restart the whole levelling. And then it wanted me to buy a Corny Corn, and threw up this message and I went mad. I've been playing this game on my iPhone 4S, and it's good (although the upgrade times are starting to be discouraging), and I wanted to continue playing it on my Z3 Compact too, but a freaking bug like this resetted my progress.

i think one example why it requests contacts permission is simply for the ingame sharing feature... in my experience the game is working with some restricted permissions too.
