    Would SAR be possible with the current game, or with limited new programming, considering a Q4 release date for PF?

    If I think about SAR, its on three levels.

    1. a single player Cat. campaign, giving the a/c an extra goal, next to patrol / recon (boring from play pov) or bombing.

    2. an extra mission profile offline - escort SAR. an extra objective, report position of downed pilot, by current radio.

    3. a multi-play strategic level. Since we already have scripted events where pilot levels do count, SAVING pilots would give meaning to fly other types of a/c online - besides a fighters and a few bombers.

    How:

    The current game engine tracks pilots, we see them bail, we see them run etc, the player can choose to "try and survive".

    1. start SAR process with reporting a mayday before bailing out or ditching, or;
    2. friendly a/c reports loss of friendly a/c, to start SAR effort;
    3. human player is no longer involved with his loss, he can resume game play, or even attempt to rescue himself;
    4. AI pilot figure in water inflates raft and during day if an a/c is spotted within a certain radius release dye marker and perhaps shoots flares, nightime flares only;
    5. online life of AI pilot is limited to X minutes, which will be a server setting;
    6. offline, during a fighter campaign the dynamic campaign would generate a SAR mission, however this must be limited, else you'd be flying nothing else but SAR escorts;
    7. once we have Japanese flyingboat / floatplanes, we can add capture of enemy pilots.
    8. if playing a flying boat campaign, you simply mix it, having some random SAR, or mission generated onces - losses occuring during game play.

    I know the above isn't fool proof and the only way to try and do this, but I think in general the concept of SAR would be VERY interesting within the scope of Pacific Fighters. You might even be able to think of a way to rescue a pilot / air crew from "neutral islands" by landing with a certain radius of the lost crew.

    Many elements are already there, but I admit it will require work, however the new type of gameplay would be rewarding and innovative (!!!). IMHO there is nothing more valiant than rescue work, saving lives instead of taking them.

    Its a challenge, its something new, but it would be a great memorial to those who saved lives in WW2 or died trying to.

    I thought this was a lomac topic out for a roam just then! (Semi-Active Radar/Search and Rescue).

    Good idea though, it would add anther style of play to the game. Get the most out of the potential IL-2 offers

    "As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

    Look Noobie, we already told you, we don't have the Patch!
