All the bikes I have have been upgraded to max a long time ago, much because I have not built tier 1 or 3 speed bikes (on my current account). Nor do I plan to. I don't like riding them, and I'd have hated to pay for the upgrades just to manage in the bunker.

KTM is a great bike and a fun one to ride, but if your goal is to advance in the bunker, it won't help. It's all about what you want from the game. I still avoid making high scores (other than with Donkey and Agent) because I like to race Anba.

The Armadillo is perhaps the toughest one for me to win with in the bunker, even at max upgrades. That's the one I'd hate most not being properly upgraded.

Some great responses. It all boils down to what your goals are. I agree that if your primary goal is to do well in the bunker you should adopt a strategy the prevents you from having to use bikes with low upgrades. That might mean avoiding building speed bikes as was suggested, avoid the donkey, or at least avoid building them until you have some parts and coins set apart to quickly get them upgraded.

I disagree with some of the comments about not having to max out the bikes to do well in the bunker. Imo, max everything. SlongBlong is a monster player, creme de la creme in TF. Xitooner has been around since the very beginning, his knowhow and experience is stupendous. Regular average player like me? yea max everything that you can.

Last but not least, just want to point out it alot of players get bored with the bunker after not too long and that´s it´s nice to have other goals to strive for in TF.

I'd consider myself average in skill so I'd agree on maxing the upgrades for a competitive advantage.

Just to clarify, I'm not just interested in the bunker. In the story/mission side you only need to be upgraded enough to keep passing missions and leveling up. You can also restart the track until your battery dies for free. The bunker is a different set of rules on restarts and at times you can find out the hard way you brought a knife to a gun fight.

I like both sides so it's tough. I need the maurader to take the next igor mission and a beserker would make beating butches girl at the refinery much easier. So both bikes have missions and xp to level up waiting for them but I only want to build one at a time to limit my bunker liability.

The KTM is getting built tomorrow though, I need 4 pieces, I'll get three from the store for 120 gems and the last one for 50.

Definitely happy about the double gem rewards from tap joy they recently had. No KTM in the bunker and a mad stash of free gems makes getting and building it a no brainer.

    Ok, update.

Armidillo, tango, bronco, jackal, mantis and riptide are fully built.

KTM is partially built but fine as it is.

So, is the maurader's only purpose to beat the ghost and eventually get the phantom? What is the end goal of beating the igor/ghost missions?

If that's the case I'm probably going to build the beserker next as it would help with the tier 3 tracks.

Congrats! Yes, Berzerker is definitely the most worthwhile one left.

I believe the end goal of all ghost missions is to get gold on all Island tracks, and win the "Purifier" track as a reward. Not sure the Marauder plays a part of anything story-wise once you build it and use it to beat the Ghost Boss at (I think?) Steam Quarter... so at that point you just upgrade enough to be comfortable (for now) in the Bunker.

Cool, thank you. I'm probably not(meaning I'll "try to resist") building anything until this bunker season is nearly over. I'm enjoying knowing that if I lose in the bunker, it's me not the bike. I can't give that up quite yet.

Ive learned my lesson about unnecessary fast times the hard way. I spent a ton of time at the processing center trying to get platinum. Now I'm stuck on anba until the ktm gets upgraded a bit more.

Don't overtake ANBAs more than 1s. It's better to wait for it and beat at the least possible time. So your next ANBAs won't be so strong.

Alright, so another update. I think I finished everything I can. I beat Cassidy at the refinery and the prospector came back. I finished all his medal collection missions and got the remaining phantom blueprints. I beat butch at the grind house and he admitted he sux. Fwiw I did all that with the riptide and no other tier 3's built

The only thing I have left is igor/ghost and anba. So despite wanting the beserker, I need to build the maurader to move on. Being that it seems less popular, maybe it won't be so bad built up in the bunker, I usually do well with the bronco.

Unless you can talk me out of it...

It depends on your skill to be honest. The 'agile' bikes have the most skill flattening, ie, a good player is not much faster than a bad player.

A marauder has less skill flattening, because momentum is so critical to the bike.

A good player with a 2/2/2/2 donkey can thump an average player with a 10/10/10/10. It is the most skill based bike, and you really need to put a lot of effort into it to learn how to control it.

So if you think you are average, build an agile bike. If you think you are pretty good, grab the speed bike. If you have quite a bit of spare time, grab the donkey.

Donkey also improves your overall skill. Im not a great rider... 6 or so weeks ago, id struggle to get a top 5k in most tracks. But 6 weeks of grinding this donkey, and I can now relatively easily get all normal track to under 3k. ie I used to have maybe 20 tracks under 5k, now im at somewhere near 170. I have learnt more in the last 6 weeks of donkey grinding than the last 6 months with normal bikes.

That and if I see a donkey track now in bunker, it is almost auto win. At least until legend status.

    Another update....

I've been playing using up magnets, hitting the slot machine the second it's available and playing ninja season in the bunker.

I got to rank 5 with 5 stars, had 2.8 million in coins so I built the maurader. The total upgrade cost is about 3.4 mil, the 2.8 I had easily gets it from 0-0-0-0 to 9-9-9-9 and by the time I get to 9's I'll have the coins for 10's.

I like the bike so far and it's still got a lot of upgrades to be done. I finished the igor missions and got gold on flaming highway. I got the ghost into the saloon, currently he wants me to complete melancholy temple and another island track. I'm holding off on those for now because I don't want to deal with them in the bunker (technically I've completed all island tracks but restarted them and exited out without getting credit).

Rank 5 is the highest I've gotten in the bunker and quite frankly I think it's a good representation of my skill level. Previously I've taken the last few days off of each season having reached the prize I wanted and didn't want to risk losing it by going backwards. This season I don't really care so once I get the maurader to 8's I'll head back in and see where I can climb (or fall) to. I might be able to move up once all the good rider get to legends and change the skill curve of ranks 1-5.
