Am I alone in this or does anyone else really want the parachuting aspect of the game to be realistic? Previous games like GTA have really botched the realism of skydiving and it's a shame because even though it seem like a minor attribute, parachuting could really open up an entertaining feature on the side. I'm aware Wildlands is tactical shooter first, but why not have some extreme entertainment at the controls on your way to some missions or when you're just messing around and exploring the map? Hear me out…
Picture this: you and your four buddies just jumped out of a helicopter and you're free-falling close together. So close in fact everyone holds down the LB and RB buttons (xbox) and everyone links hands to form a synchronized circle! You guys continue to fall closer to the clouds below, but eventually you all release the LB and RB buttons and your characters let go of each other. You decide to show off and squeeze both triggers on your control - bringing in your guys arms and legs into a tucked position. You then push forward on the thumbstick and watch your guy rotate into a series of continues front flips as he falls faster. You release the triggers and your guy goes back to neutral in a belly-down position when all of a sudden one of your teammates accidentally slams headfirst into your back. You both took some damage but you're okay. The ground is starting to get noticeably closer so you pull your chute, just in case the collision caused some damage. The pilot chute catches wind and systematically pulls the main chute from your pack. Low and behold your suspicions were correct, the parachute is malfunctioning - tangling you up and spiraling you out of control. Time is ticking and the ground is rushing. Your altimeter says 1,000 feet, 900 feet, 800 feet. You quickly press a button and cutaway your main chute. Now the ground is rushing even faster! 700 feet, 600 feet, 500 feet. You pull your reserve chute and to your relief it opens without a hiccup. You flare the chute with perfect timing and make a soft landing. Later you receive an apology from your friend that almost cause your fatality, but you tell him not to worry about it, because it was an adrenaline rush haha.
So guys, how cool would it be to have the ability to perform free-motion acrobatic maneuvers while in free-fall?! You could have contests with your buddies to see how many back flips off a cliff face or antenna you could do before pulling your chute! Or the ability to have a parachute malfunction because you collided with another player, or even just because it was nothing but bad luck for that particular jump. But also the ability to cutaway from that chute and pull a reserve chute! Will the reserve malfunction too? Fingers crossed it won't! I think it could really make the game more interesting and exciting. But then again I'm biased because I'm a skydiver in the real world. I'm also a vet and I've jumped with the Navy Leap Frogs. So trust me, if you think spec ops doesn't take advantage of the ability to have a good time while jumping into a hot zone you don't know how these guys operate.
