    LMGs - whats the purpose?

When fixed, what is the point of LMGs? I picked up a nice HIGHEND MK14 (I think) the other day. It had a nice meaty sound to it but when shooting a burst, the first shot went toward the target, the 2nd shot went a foot above the guys head, and the third round went into orbit. With that kind of stability, does the LMG have any redeeming features? The damage was worse than an smg or assault rifle, the armour damage wasnt specifically different, but the stability made it totdally useless for any kind of use. So what am I missing? Is there a bonus to suppression or something?

I would argue that a huge problem with them is that suppression, something they are very good at, only matters on targets in cover.

If you apply suppression to someone in the open (i.e. conditions are met that would have applied it while they were in cover) then there should be a demonstrable and important effect, like applying a slow or stagger or such. I would argue it should be a slow or the existing Disorient or similar effect, leveraging something we already have in the system.

This would then mean talents like the one that applies more damage against a suppressed target would be useful in far more situations, for example, as well as mean that the game degenerating into the idiotic run and gun burst damage simulator it is now rather than the cover based shooter promised could start to be addressed.

Suppression, as a tactic and type of gunfire, has always been used for area denial, that's what the term means to best of my knowledge in tactical terms. IT was meant to drive you into cover, yes, but that doesn't mean it didn't do something nasty if you were out in the open; quite the opposite.

I've seen them work when multiple people in a team use them at close quarter ranges and just rip in to targets with those massive clip sizes ... BUT, this is actually not how they should function at all, since they're ya know - LMGs lol

    I have a dead-stable LMG that kicks *** (I forget what it's called).
It has much lower dps than my Vector but kills faster because 9/10 rounds hit the target at any distance - easy head shots, too.
Not sure what makes it so stable, never really looked at the base stats, but the mods I'm using help a lot.
Recently changed muzzle attachment & sacrificed some stability for some other stat (forget what) but it's still more stable than any other gun I've used.

    edit: it's a H.E. L86 LSW, don't remember which variant.

To help good players identify who to kick at the start of a mission.

LOL Even though I usually have the lowest GS in the fire team, I often do the majority of the damage w/ my LMG.
If anyone kicked me because of my LMG they'd be shooting themselves in the foot.

I don't think the weapon works really as intended what ever their intentions were...

But I'm guessing it has 2 main "features".
    1. Suppression
There'a also skill if you haven't noticed that adds 25% head damage bonus to a suppressed target. (useful if you already have brutal, suppress, run up and gank. Don't think it works in PVP)

    2. When an NPC takes damage from a LMG it get's interrupted more easily than when shot by an SMG. (SA-58 does that too just as easily).

in order for an LMG to really work you need to actually min/max the hell out of it and with gear that suits it.
You'll never do the same DPS as an SMG or even an Assault rifle.

But the larger clip size allows you to sometimes kill certain targets before having to reload which can be a great bonus.
Or even burst down several targets.

LMGs are lacking in every single way as it right now.
1.2 patch I hope will save it.

Wielding an LMG means you expose yourself for a longer time as well. It's just natural having lower dps but a very large clip size.
You need Stamina and lots of it. Problem is, you might also need at least some tech power. If not you maybe someone else in your group. Your biggest boost to your class as an LMG wielder is the Smart Cover.
Damage reduction with added dps and heal.

It's way harder than anything else to get the most out of.
    and even if you do....

It's fun, but not ever as useful as the other weapons.

Hoping that in 1.2 they will substantially buff both ARs and LMGs to do what they should be BIS at.........which is mid ranged damage.

Frankly the 20-25% CHC bonus for SMGs and 120% plus headshot bonus for Sniper Rifles was waaaay too big, but its here and I believe in buffing under performing items as apposed to nerfing over performing items.

    Onto my suggested buffs.

    AR buff suggestions
    1. Flat damage bonus buff, or
    2. Damage bonus to targets hit 20 meters or more away.
    3. Release some bloody 204 AR plans for AK74 and SCAR-L. Both of these are the hardest hitting ARs in the game and BIS for this class IMO.

    LMG buff suggestions
    1. Flat damage bonus buff, or
    2. Damage bonus to targets hit 20 meters or more away.
    3. Alter an existing set or introduce a new set that provides a group wide damage bonus % for any target that is, or was suppressed using an LMG. Suppression and accuracy is the LMG classes thing, there should be a set that rewards that thing.

    Cheers

It's really a shame. Not oly are SMG's pretty much all anyone uses in the DZ...they're typically only using 2 or 3 of them. Nearly every other SMG or gun type are fairly irrelevant. The SMG's simply don't have any real disadvantages. The LMG's kick like an absolute mule, and just don't do a fraction of the damage that SMG's do. The cover to cover system should have been brilliant in this game, but barely anyone uses it because there's next to zero punishment for being out in the open while getting struck. So many things not thought through in this game.

All LMGs that have 100 rounds are beyond redemption...

The rest are more or less an Assault Rifle that consumes another kind of ammo, that could make them useful as a backup if your main ran out of ammo...
