Hunter Vision? I don't get it.

I took the time to write this because I am very confused about something. My son loves this game and plays it all the time. When he first got the game he showed it to me and I thought it looked great. The forests, mountains, rivers, and animals looked like something you would see in a nature program on TV. But lately when I see him playing it, the color is always black and white. When I asked him, he said that its hunter vision and it makes the game easier. I laughed at him and he got angry. I am confused why you would create such a beautiful game, and then make people want to play it in black and white? He told me to write this in the forums and then people would explain it to me. It seems like a mistake. Maybe you could explain to him why he should play the game in color

What hunters vision does is it will highlight enemy's and animals in bright yellow and to make them easier to see with the highlighting the rest of the world turn black and white it also allows you to see scent trails of rare animals also you are not forced to play the game like that all the time in fact I only use it when I'm hunting or tagging enemys the rest of the time I have it off

O.K. but.........isn't that almost all you do in this game? Hunt and kill enemies? So......what.......you are playing the game most of the time in black and white?

Not all the time and you don't have to use it when ever enemy's are near but when you are trying to take out enemy's with stealth, its night time, or you lose sight of a rare animal them that's when you should use it,
now if your son has it on all the time then I can see the problem as it is a beautiful game and he's missing out if he keeps it on all the time

He says it's too easy to miss something that may be important, or lose track of enemies, so he leaves it on. If that is the case why would you design a game like that? Other games I have seen highlight important objects without turning the whole screen black and white.

Most likely becuase ubisoft see's this method to be the easiest, while some ppl have given them ideas on a different way
such as highlighting certain markings on animals and enemy's and I would personally think that having it a different color then yellow and making it bright would also allow them to keep the color of the game while highlighting enemy's and animals

Well I guess he will just continue to play the game in black and white, and I will leave him alone. Seems very silly.

Yeah, it's sadly up to the player to keep immersion to a maximum.

The introduction of a cooldown to Hunter Vision would've been welcome in my opinion. Especially if that cooldown could then be reduced by spending some skill points in Takkar's perk tree or something.
Currently I set the Hunter Vision to last only 10s and try not to use it too much. It really makes the game look terrible.

Not sure why they chose to make it the way it is, I know I mentioned something about that in another thread that it shouldn't wash out colors like it does and highlight in bright yellow (or red, in some cases in missions.)

In the interface you can select the time for how long it is up, don't know if it is only when starting a new game or not but in the survivor mode save that I was last playing I had it set for 20 seconds. Most of the time I only briefly toggle it on then back off, don't need it up all the time.
