BloodFang Died From Nothing In Permadeath Mode

Im currently 20% in on my permadeath playthrough. I just tamed the Bloodfang Sabertooth. I fast traveled to a captured outpost and summoned Bloodfang from the menu. Walked over to the ledge and grappled down to the bottom. I walk like 10 ft and see two enemies, so I tell Bloodfang to go attack them. Except nothing happens. Somehow he is already dead. We literally ran into no enemies and i had given him no commands that could be viewed as my fault that led to his death. So basically the npc of bloodfang somehow found a way to kill himself while i was grappling down the side of a hill. I get what you are trying to do with the whole permadeath thing for animals but this is ridiculous. The best beast in the game died from something I had no control over. Please introduce a patch that can fix this by possibly making the mission replayable or something like that. I got to use him for like 5 minutes. Not to mention life would have been a whole lot easier on permadeath.
Im playing with second chance on so maybe they could make it so I can trade a second chance to revive a beast.

This happens too frequently with all beasts, which is why I'm seriously thinking about not pursuing any legendary beast missions while in permadeath mode. Those missions aren't worth the risk if your beast is just going to suicide. This is one of the bugs I reported in a bug thread of mine, and I have seen others complain about it as well.

Beasts seem to suicide, with no chance to save them, in several circumstances that I've observed:

    1) Beast stuck on a ledge such that it can't find the path down. This is the most common one.

    2) Beast stuck in geometry - I watched my beast suicide once when it got caught at an odd angle between the ground and rocky overhang. When that happened I summoned another beast to replace it, and that one immediately died too by spawning in the exact same spot that the first one died...

    3) Another animal physically pushes it against a ledge - I watched a brown bear push my cave lion against a ledge once, killing the lion instantly; it wasn't from an attack - the bear was just running towards the lion and physically pushed the lion to where it didn't have enough room to 'path', so it just died - no chance to resuscitate.

    4) Beast falls into water, or follows you into the water, and drowns.

To minimize the problem, I've learned to dismiss my beast anytime I want to go somewhere that will be somewhat difficult for the beast to follow. This means you should dismiss your beast anytime you want to grapple, swim, or slide down a hill. Then recall your beast once you're firmly on open ground again. Alternatively, if you're going to quickly return to the spot where you left your beast, just make sure to command it to halt rather than dismiss it - I do this often if I just want to grab something out of the water real quick.

I really hope they fix this. In my opinion, this is the biggest issue currently facing people who play on permadeath (it's right up there with not being able to skip the tutorial and vision missions).

The worst time it happened for me, I was at 44% completion on expert-permadeath (my highest so far) when my sabretooth got killed by a pack of woolly rhinos. Fair enough. So I tamed a replacement, who then proceeded to drown itself moments later. I then died trying to tame his replacement.

Thanks for the reply. I have had so many beats just commit random suicide It definitely is the worst bug. Super frustrating. I did a bunch of gathering and capturing outposts before heading into main missions on this play through and died from a sabertooh attack because my bear that was supposed to be protecting me had just recently committed suicide without me knowing. I had nearly every equipment and skill upgrade and then have it all ruined by the dumbest thing. hope they start fixing these issues soon.

Now Im gonna start a new game but idk what I should do. Its fun with permadeath cause it feels more immersive knowing you cant die, but there are so many bugs.

    Yeah, it's crazy frustrating.

One other thing I've learned, since I dismiss/recall my beasts so much now in order to avoid suicides, is that if you want your beast to appear on the same side of a river as you, you need to face the river.

In other words, beasts like to spawn either behind you, or to the side of you, so if you want to prevent them from spawning across the river from you, you have face the direction that you DON'T want them to appear. It doesn't work 100% of the time because the spawn range seems to span the entire 180 degree arc behind you, but it helps.

Since I'm not looking for much of a challenge but rather something to relax to, I have been playing on survivor with no permadeath, and with all the pets bugging out don't even use one anymore. Only call them out in a wide open space and use them as predator repellent. Found that bait, spears, and burning clubs are your best friends at night, because your pet sure isn't. The few times I have used it when another beast knocked them out (not killed) I had a chance to heal them up, but the way the bug is they just vanish with no warning and are gone from the beast menu.

Edit: One of my jaguars died to this bug, and I later found it at the bottom of a cliff. Looked like it had been killed, but seems it fell off the cliff somehow or got dragged down when it attacked one of the blue man tribe and both went over.

The ****tiest part is that Ubi hasn't indicated in the slightest that they're gonna fix this anytime soon
