Hey mates,
Sorry to start a new thread but the old one was getting bit bloated and I was curious where people are at now: Specifically wanted to hear from horyts, rogue, vic, gmez - the main contributors to the forums really (and any one else that wanted to share some epicness).
So I'm playing expert, survival, second chance, no HUD except health.
Just made it to 45% and tamed Bloodfang - bastard nearly had me.
I think I've died maybe two or three times getting to this point.
Some utterly epic moments:
* running from pissed off rhinos;
* pissed of Wenja tribe members that inexplicably attacked me (nearly killing me when I had no lives left);
* a psychopathic jaguar that relentlessly attacked me while my useless bear did nothing;
* and perhaps my favourite - with no lives left, being attacked while at the top of the waterfall near Urki's place, I had one health bar left and just launched off the edge of the cliff. Landed in the water and ****ing survived. Loved it.
How are you guys faring?
(P.S apologies for my absence, working on a paper at the moment)
Wow, we are actually very similar both in our progress and the observations we make (and perceive as epic, because they are haha). I have had MANY of the exact same types of experiences and observations. Oh, and I'm humbled that you actually requested to hear from me among a few others. I don't know why that means a lot but it does lol Anyway, I'll give you my rundown of how I'm doing!Originally Posted by mercuryspooning Go to original post
I'm also playing Expert, SMode, Second Chance - except I use no HUD whatsoever. I eat meat occasionally just to make sure my stamina is where it should be and when I'm tired I rest at a campfire. The only tough part of playing with no HUD whatsoever is that I can never tell how much stamina is drained from being attacked and I don't know exactly how much health I have, but eating in combat fixes that for me.
I am at 56% as of last night, which has taken me a little over 24 hours of straight gameplay. Bloodfang is the only legendary animal I've tamed (bastard took one of my lives) and I've died 4-5 times (actually almost immediately after I get a life I lose it to a pissed off animal) I want to finish the game tonight or tomorrow just to move on to the full challenge....but that'll kick my *** so maybe I'll take my time.
I've been faring almost exactly the same in regards to dangers and close encounters:
- Being trampled by every big animal at least twice, and attacked by every small animal too many times to count now
- Losing every single one of my extra lives to angry rhinos, mammoths, and bears
- Many occasions where Sabre Tooth Tigers attack me and my lazy *** bear does nothing...actually more annoying than epic to me
- Many times I've been running towards a fire in the middle of the night, only to literally run into some unsuspecting Udam who screamed and nearly made me scream back
- Fighting the Izila with next to nothing and watching them take 2-3 arrows to be taken down...it's very unsettling when you realize how vulnerable you are compared to them
- I've also had some occasions where Wenja brashtars attack me for what appears to be no reason, leaving me running from my own people
- I've had some "oh shhhhhh-it!" moments when I realize the sounds of heavy footsteps are not my animal, but an angry mammoth, yak, or rhino that feels threatened by me
- A lot of fun standoffs where I have almost no health and no ammo and there's one enemy left and we both prepare our last spears and I beat him to the throw by a split second, leaving me the last man standing among the carnage
I feel like we play very similarly, and that's really cool to me. I do have to say that the animal pets are still really annoying to me a lot of the time...like, when Sabre Tooth Tigers attack, they almost always come out of nowhere and quickly attack, and if they knock you down there's a 50% chance you wont even have time to heal before they finish you off....but I'll have a bear or sabre tooth summoned and they'll just phuckin' sit there while this beast tears me apart...that is so frustrating. That and I have had many times where the grappling hook animation fails when throwing the hook and I'll plummet down the mountain to the ground and have to start over. I've also discovered a couple bugs in caves and an outpost where if you drag a body over to a wall and hug the corner as you throw them down, you'll be sucked into the wall and have to reboot your game. I've taken videos of these problems and will eventually upload them on here for Ubisoft to ignore (they acknowledge like 1 out of every 25-30 posts here) - for these reasons alone, I've been reluctant to try the full challenge.
But aside from those gripes I'm in love with this game and can't wait for more experiences. Feel free to share more, this is fun!
Heya Guys,
Haha, I had all the same above issuesExcept for I'm playing Hard Mode, Survival, second Chance.
I had the most trouble with Rhinos. If you stalking around them, its sure that a few Udams or Izilas go there for suciding themselves on the rhinos,
After they get trampled, of course you are the next.
Mammoths are much worse, as the follow you deeper into the river. I almost died, becuase once I jumped into the river, left my bear die beneath the feet of a mammoth, but then the beast took away all my life in 1 single hit! I swam deeper like a crazy goose!
After this I decided to not progress any longer, till I farm the best spear, with a decent spear belt to carry 3 pcs. And also unlocked the skill to deal more damage to animals.
Now a headshot kills a rhyno or even a mammoth. The world is much safer now
I still countinu to wander around with a bear, and dismiss him, when I'm closing on an outpost, or change ground level.
Biggest experience is that, when I'm on the run, I always get into trouble: Sabretooth, Jaguars, 4 Udams, ets. Therefore I crouch about 50-60 yards, then stop for a second and listen,
With this method I always decet the danger, and the initiative is mine.
Predators aren't a problem, Just throw a bait and headshot them.
I'm currently at 33%, but fully upgraded, so ready to start the serious progress. I lost a few lives, and learned this: I always died, when I felt too geared and took things leisure. Basically underestimated the environment. For example, I hunted for yaks. Found 2 yaks, while killed them I also get a few hits from wandering Udams. No problem, killed them too. After the carnage I get hit from the back by a charging yak I didn't discovered somehow. So you always have to be on the top of your senses and cautiousness.
Stronges weapon by far is the Sting Bomb. The bear is also supplying my an unlimited amount of beehives, and with a well throwed Sting Bomb you can kill 4 enemies at once.
Also discovred that, you don't need to progress 3% to get back a life. Once I progressed only 0,31% From 29,75% to 30,06%, just picked up a Wenja Bracelet, and reached the required amout for a bonus and I get back my extra life. I don't know whether it works with the other collectibles as well, But going to test it if I lose my extra life again.
If it works, then a minor cheat: collect 1 less than nedded for the bonus and upond dying, collect the last one and get back your life.
Most challenging and time consuming task: Hunt down 2 Bitefish...
I had to unlock the skill to tag animals and find the bitefish at a narrow river with Owl,...
Without these I didn't succeed with Bitefish.
Oh and a technical question: How can you take out a couple during the night to not get caght? I like to do everything in stealth mode, I cannot solve this problem, If I kill one of them the other causing problems...
^^^ Must slightly correct your assumption here gmezei76, it is not another three percent from your exact point of death it is the next overall three percent completed game threshold: thus at 3, 6, 9. 12. 15... all the way up to 30% and beyond... the thirty percent threshold point above explaining your latest life gained.
Hi folks not much to report lately. With Primal mostly been doing some offline survival outside permadeath using a guest account on my PS4 as an extra save slot. Wanted an active game I could use to de-stress and feel freer to experiment with outside even the confines of second chance - for example now gone back to no HUD ignoring the new reticule option.
Interestingly overalll I have probably died less often in that game than in my current second chance playthrough. So far I have been hardly less cautious even without permadeath. It seems striving hard to stay alive is habit forming in Primal - at least it is for me.
To take out a couple at night I must suggest the obvious of using takedowns as in chain or shard throw if those skills are unlocked otherwise short bow headshots with quick precisionn sometimes I know easier said than done when targets are shifting around. Alternatively maybe luring them out and apart with stones before doing the deed might work but that seems a bit risky due to possibly alerting others nearby.
I get your confusion but my point is that the 30.06% is what gained you that life because you passed the 30% threshold from 29.75% which is below 30% - just give it a bit more thought. The last freshold ypu passed - in overall 3 percent increases - being at 27%. Your 0,31 percent addition crossing the crucial boundary when added to the 29.75%.Originally Posted by gmezei76 Go to original post
Poorly explained by me, no doubt I am making a simple matter sound more complex than it is, but I hope you can now see how it actually works.
Hahaha, excellent stuff guys.
Those ****ing bears are the laziest, good-for-nothing freeloaders. I think mine is a cross between Baloo and Yogi.
I've had the grappling hook issue a few times but it hasn't yet been fatal. I think if I permadeath at this point though, I'll have to hang up my Wenja bracelet.
Which reminds me: one stupid-arse death I forgot to mention. In the collecting feathers quest for Wogah, I shot an arrow at an eagle dive-bombing me, only to cartoonishly wander off the cliff trying to skin its rolling corpse. Real palm to face moment there.
Gmez, when I first started survival, I assumed finding Bitefish would be the bane of my existence but for some reason I've managed to harvest an absolute surplus of skins.
And Vic I hear you - I get home in the afternoon and I really need to relax and distress... and so I play the most stressful game where the risk is so high it sometimes makes me nauseous.
I'm not entirely sure how I rationalise that.
On that note, I think I'll go punish myself some more.
Keep us all updated with any funny/epic anecdotes - I'm always eager to share the experience.
