Rogues: An observation by an Xbox One player

I picked this game up a few weeks ago on the recommendation of a friend, and quickly got hooked. It took me a long time prior to heading into the Dark Zone. I finally started meeting some people while playing the daily missions, and had added a decent number of folks to my friends list such that nearly any time of the day I hopped on, there were a small handful of people to party up with. I felt better being a bit insulated by 2-3 better, more experienced players. I've gotten to the point where I can hold my own with NPC's, but I'm still a trainwreck when it comes to PvP. I just don't have the experience, and unless you go rogue as a matter of habit and force the scenario, it's just not TOO common. Really, I've been trying to stay on the DL while I build my character up. Even with level 196 armor, full 65% mitigation, and a high resilience to exotic damage...I still get my *** handed to me in a few seconds by most rogues for some reason. Perhaps I just suck, really.

At any rate, last night I had a few interesting encounters that stuck out among the many I've had over the past couple weeks. Our group was in game chat, so proximity voice chat was in play. We came across another group of friendlies and declared that we were non-hostile, and just having some fun collecting loot and stuff. They said that typically they'd have wasted us, but we just sounded entirely too nice and they couldn't bring themselves to do it. I thought that was pretty *******ed swell of them. They were all level 99's while our group was mostly in the 60's where DZ level is concerned. We were able to extract and go on our merry way.

About an hour later, we came upon another group at the library. We had largely anihilated what was there, but still had the boss left. We told them to get some shots in on the boss so they could could get the gold drop, which they thanked us for. None of them had a key, so we also opened the chest. As we left, they asked if they could tag along and we said sure. So we hit up a few other spots, then went to an extraction. They called one in, and we covered them while they loaded up. Then we called ours in. They anihilated us, took our ****, then used our own extraction to ship it out. Then, they sat there and called us all manner of profane things, said they were recording it, and posting on YouTube about just how stupid some people are. Suppose we were.

After many experiences like this, my first thought would be to shoot any player character on site as though they were an NPC. Treat everything as hostile. Maybe that's the point of the DZ. The gentleman's approach just doesn't pay off, in the end. Not even a little. Especially not when they kill you, then race to the nearest safe house or DZ checkpoint and camp it to wait for you to come back out so they can rape you again. While I'm well aware that the DZ is fair game for this kind of stuff, it aggravates me. Maybe it shouldn't. I guess it's the **** talking that gets to me. Maybe the general principle of it as a whole. I don't know. I suppose I don't mind getting merked, but the wolf in sheep's clothing thing is pretty irksome, as is the ignorant **** talking afterwards.

At the very least, the DZ is like a box of chocolates. You meet all types of personalities down there. I think people's behavior in the DZ is probably emblematic of the type of person you're playing against as a whole.

Great write up, most of us have had experiences like this. I don't even fight back any more, I just stand there and clap.

Quite frankly - the excitement of the DZ is completely lost to me. I get in there to knock out the daily rewards and then get out as quick as possible. It's just not any fun.

That's what make the DZ great

ProTip (if you can call it that lol) when running with another group that isn't your normal group of guys or are strangers - never trust them fully (obviously) but when it comes to extraction tell the other team that two of them and two of you share each extraction ... if they refuse or act weird about sharing the extraction ropes, then they plan to kill you. Never let the other group get all four of their guys on the same rope.

    Yep.

The only people I trust in the DZ are those on my friends list. That's it. My brother was in a random group and got a good drop. He said it out loud to the group and was promptly kicked from the group, killed and looted.

Steer clear of anyone not on your friends list in the DZ.

    Trust no one.

Also I avoid game chat. People are toxic and obnoxious .

I'm usually the rogue but I don't talk smack to people especially if they were out manned or out geared.

Yes, people are ****s, but just like a first date... you should have used protection. You didn't know these people long enough to garner ANY of your trust.

NEVER extract with another group. There's only a max of 4 slots open, so it's pointless, and I've NEVER had an issue guarding a spot with just a group of 4, even when I wasn't as well geared. Also, you should have extracted 1 at a time and have the other three on guard. There's plenty of time to do that. Once we had a feeling this group was going to to that to us as they kinda hung around the extraction after they helped us clear the boss and mobs. I was used as bait and simultaneously popped my Overheal and Survivor Link as they all tried to gank me. Then my buds turned on them and ANNIHILATED them. It was VERY satisfying.

Live and learn and move on. This is coming from a guy that's been ganked more times than I care to remember.
