As for my build I've been suspicious of my stats being low compared to my GS. I haven't really had a specific build, I've just tried to stay balanced. Every time I try to focus big on DPS, my health drops below 60k which is unbearable. My skill power also got lower than 10k recently (before I got gear and got it up to 15k) which was also terrible. I have a lot of trouble balancing things out.
Don't place too much emphasis on the gear score of an item. All it really does is provide an indication as to the potential max of the perks/talents, but you can still get a terrible roll on a 204 piece and have it be worse than the 182 you were already wearing. As for the stats, keep in mind that you really only have 6 slots in which to place an item that will provide stats. Depending on whether you want to be a skill-based player or just pure DPS, allocate items that will allow you to get a good stat score in that category. I currently have three items with firearms, two with stamina and one with electronics, plus a holster that provides all three stats. This gives me 195/70/17 but my gear score is only 185. I've only got two set pieces, the Sentry mask and knee-pads for the 30% headshot damage.

So really, I would recommend paying attention to which primary stat each item is providing and how many you have for each stat. For example, if you decide you want to replace an electronics vest with a firearms, buy the blueprint in the Base for a firearms vest and then start praying to the crafting slot machine that you can get a good roll. Also, use the re-calibration station in the Tech Wing to either improve the item stats or replace a perk you don't want/need with one you do. Use any gear mod slots you get on your items to buff the stat you are focusing on.

Getting to a 180+ gear score is a good start, but once you start paying attention to the specific stats and perks of your items and tweaking them to your needs, you'll start seeing improvement in your overall character stats.

I use 3 Nomads and 2 Striker and my second bonus is 20% Health with a kill, which is extremelly helpful. I also did some recalibration, to increase my ammo capacity. Now I can go around killing a bunch of NPC and getting my level up faster.
    Correct.

    Striker:
    +2 - 20% to Armor Damage
    +3 - 100% Crit Hit Damage

    Sentry:
    +2 - +30 HS damage
    +3 - +20% damage to Elites

Agreed. The issue about gear sets are that they each have their ups and downs. They are MUCH harder to maintain a build with. People are in a hurry to get those bonuses, but fail to realize they are diminishing their firearms/stamina/electronics to do so, which remove the skills of their weapons, and overall screw with their damage output or damage mitigation/health. I've seen people under 170 just tear down 204s with little effort.

Another thing you will notice with gear sets is that each one is built with a play stile in mind. I believe (Don't quote as I don't have all the facts) that the striker set only give you bonuses on drops that deal only with Ballistic Shield, and it will increase your damage, but reduces the dropped armor and health. Nomads drop your overall damage, but boost armor and health (don't know what skills they drop with), and Tactician boosts electronics and armor.

Don't quote me, but it's what I've gathered over the last week or so.

I currently have a sentry's call, two nomad, and a striker. I would like to go striker for DPS, is that a good idea? First of all, it takes forever to level up in the DZ for me since I'm not geared well enough to constantly go rogue and will just end up losing XP. I'm confused on how to get gear and weapons from the BoO since it's all so expensive now! I currently have 239 phoenix credits which is the most I've ever had but its not anywhere close to get anything good. Am I wasting my time doing daily missions? Should I be focused on leveling up in the dark zone solely? I'm just confused on what to do at the moment because I feel like I'm so far behind - and the people who play a ton are making it worse because they have a ton of phoenix credits and they will keep increasing the prices. I play about 2-3 hours a day which doesn't seem like enough because of school. What should I be doing?
You need to optimise your gear more. by way of comparison, I play fairly casually and at GS187 my stats are roughly 250/65/17 using 4 pieces of Sentry (2 crafted, 2 from FL) and a MP5. Look for synergies between gear (mine is based around headshot damage) and don't discard your yellows for set pieces just for the sake of it.

Yes, keep your yellows until you feel confident in your sets. I refuse to junk my 182 gear just in case.

Totally agree about the set pieces messing with your build. I'll see an item and get excited but then realize its providing the wrong primary stat and the thought of having that change is just too much!

I still have yellows for every slot I have a set piece in. I treat it the same way I did in Destiny, I always had a legendary piece in my inventory even when I was using an Exotic. You never know, you might want to change Exotics (or here, set pieces) and without a backup you're screwed.

It's not just the primary stats. It all screws with your skill bonuses as well. Currently, with what I've found or made gear set wise, I was lucky. I have 80k health and maybe around 58-59% damage mitigation, and I have enough firepower to get my weapons between 150k-190k dps without accuracy. I also have the correct amount of firepower and stamina to have every bonus of all my weapons activated. It's great. BUT, My usual skills I have enabled such as pulse and first aid are total crap now. Since Striker is based off of Ballistic Shield, it will be a wasted stat until I can find more set gear that have comparable stats to what I have now pre reconfig So far I was lucky with my 2 Sentry pieces where they had decent enough main and sub stats that I could afford to change my skill bonuses to be pulse oriented, but either way it's still a sacrifice.

A lot of people I know are saying similar things. progression has hit a stand still. and that leaves them stuck.

my gear score is 176 and it's been stuck there for ages. even when I do challenging modes and get phoenix credits I've cleared out virtually all the materials I had on higher tier blueprints have gone from near 300 high end fabric to just 2. and all I've got to show for it is a pair of 182 gloves that have 4% more crit damage than the 163 gloves I had before I bought the blueprints.

every named boss I kill in hard modes or even challenging when I do them drops junk, have dismantled several 204 weapons all useless in comparison to my 163 marksmans and 182 smg. and everything I pick up just get dismantled for materials or sold to pay for rerolls.

same with gear dismantled loads of 182 and 204 pieces because they're all junk.

I have no interest in pvp and even less interest in the darkzone in its current state. it's a million miles away from what it was advertised to be. place to go and get better loot yet every piece of loot I see egts left on the floor cos it's junk and not worth trying to extract. the dz blue prints are ridiculously expensive. I've made like 50k dark zone funds in total and am rank 30 I think maybe 29 think I dropped a rank.

no interest incrafting at present, using almost 300 fabrics which took weeks to gather up and stockpile and i'm really no better off for using them all.

so yeah we're stuck (my frineds and I) and we can't progress. we can run several challenge modes can venture into the dz occasionally but we never get anywhere. all the loot that drops is useless junk..

and the fact that we're not getting anywhere crushes our incentives to play. there is no progression or path to better loot. challenge modes yield useless junk, the dz yields useless junk,
blueprints from the dz are ridiculously expensive and even if you buy them it takes hundreds of attempts to get a decent roll... same with phoenix credits. I've spent a few hundred of them recently and again have noting to show for it except an empty bag of materials.

in the what 2 weeks since 1.1 hit my gear score has gone from 174 to a staggering 176. and only 1 piece of my loadout has changed. so yes we're stuck there is no way to progress.and because of that we've lost incentive to play. and over that 2 weeks we've put more than a few hours into farming things to try and get better gear. challenge modes, darkzone bosses, dailies.

a lot of friends have said the same thing. they're stuck and they can't progress even when a "better" item drops it's not better at all so it just gets dismantled.

So I just got enough credits to buy the sentry's call 214 mask from the BoO vendor. I'm up to 190 GS and 155/73/14 which I consider pretty solid and way better than I was before. I can't decide between going 4 sentry's and 2 striker's because if I went 3 and 3 I would get the 50% crit damage which seems unreal to me. Which one should I do?
