I just hope they don't resort to using third party anti-cheat software such as nProtect and whatnot (Which doesn't work anyway, since Mabinogi still has the problem.) That said, I would sugegst hiring volunteer users/players like Aeria Games does (they call them "Game Sages,") and pay them in game currency like phoenix credits or cash shop currency if you ever plan that for the future.
Volunteer work works well. I have done that for several companies over the years. However, each volunteer must be required to record evidence and submit it for company review.Originally Posted by coldReactive Go to original post
It's not too uncommon. I did volunteer GM work for EverQuest II, Star Wars Galaxies, and APB Reloaded.Originally Posted by SDZald Go to original post
They wouldn't have the ability to ban or anything, they just would be able to contact the GMs directly themselves through a special instant chat or voice system.Originally Posted by SDZald Go to original post
That is basically what I am suggesting. GM_Banhammer sends out his agents to investigate reports of cheating. The agents report back to the GM with the evidence or lack of. Then it is up to the GM_Banhammer to decide what to do on a case by case incident.Originally Posted by coldReactive Go to original post
do you want to pay a monthly subscription to this game? I wouldn't.Originally Posted by Ironeyes- Go to original post
WoW has GM's on demand because people are paying for that through monthly subs.
plus UBI they had over 500 people logging, recording and putting people on ban list for the first month running tools to see what was going on in the server. I played with 2 of them. the only problem is none of the people flagged ever got banned.
I say "played" because one doesn't play the game any longer because there was so many hackers he couldn't believe it. 2-5 hackers per server easy. and the other...... well he is hacking now...........
An 18 man team could make an impact on the cheating in this game.
I built an 18 man schedule to cover all shifts for a week. At $15 an hour the cost is $10,800 a week or $561,600.00 for a year. Let's see, they made $300 million the first 5 days. I think they could aford to put together a team to curtail cheating.
I'm a QAM (quality assurance manager) but I would be tickled to run a team like that for a paltry salary. I'm sure many of you would be glad to GM at $15 an hour. What a great job for a college student.
EQ1 used volunteers as did Planetside. This is doable but such a backwards way to solve a problem that should have been accomplished with netcode and not bodies. But due to their erros in judgement; Massive/Ubi should step up and make this happen.
Once again Ubi already has collected the money from all of us. What incentive is there for them to spend a dime more than they have to on this game? Future game sales and Season Pass/DLC won't be much when you consider the tremendous bad press they have already received. What we will get is a lot of lip service and fixes that their current staff can do but they will NOT spend any more money than they have to. I am sorry but for the most part we are ummmm up the %%% creek without a paddle.
If you like on-line games you are better off going with a Pay to play game, a company has a lot more incentive to keep their players happy.
Which is weird, because in WoW, 1 Million subs vanished from Chinese players when Pandaria came out, and more still once Barracks were introduced. A lot of people don't like the idea of the barracks, because they compare it to an idle farming game. I also don't think Blizzard does enough in data collection to adjust their game properly like Final Fantasy XIV does.Originally Posted by SDZald Go to original post
But, I do agree with you, which is why I still play Final Fantasy XIV. I just wish I wasn't permanently banned on their forums for posting bot user information ;P
