I've seen some thread about the reporting command by Renegade-NC, but the thread was closed as it also showed some CM being hacked.
But the information which Renegade gave was interesting, he said :
"Also as a side note, the /report command loops back to your computer with the address 127.0.0.1, so as I expected from the beginning... It does nothing, it sends the report to your local machine and not to Massive or Ubi."
I had some discussion about the /ignore and /report commands earlier, asked how they worked in the Game, and stated how i think they should work, based on my experience of similar MMOs.
Because i've used the /report command, and i don't think it's working at all.
And the CM who was participating to the thread (Natchai i think) has gone AWOL immediatly.
What Renegade-NC said is the adress for the report transaction is 127.0.0.1, which is "localhost", the adress for your own computer.
If this is true, this means the /report command doesn't not work at all, as it doesn't send complaints to Ubisoft.
It's even worse, because it deceiving, it makes you think your complaint was sent to Ubisoft / Massive, whereas there's no complaint sent, and nobody at Ubisoft's to process them.
Renegade-NC, do you have some proof of what you said ?
How did you find this information ? Did you sniff the network traffic by yourself ?
if this allegation is true, i'll be glad to hear CMs explainations about this, because it's would be incompetence anymore, but dupery on purpose ...
I read a similar post earlier today but it was locked immediately, so I believe this will get locked right away.
Back to the topic, if this is true and the command goes back to our loopback, after telling us that this process works and we should follow it, then Ubi/Massive will have some serious explaining to do. We all know that reporting others on their support is slow and the common answer is that they can't investigate. We also know the PC version uses the "trusted client" method which makes it really hard, if not impossible, to track down a person who is cheating. And now this?
All I read the past few days is that there have been bans, 3 day and permanent ones, yet nobody really knows how that stands.
Ubisoft/Massive, personally I have defended the game but it is time for explanations and transparency to the people that paid for your product.
Natchai said nothing, my questions were simply ignored, as many others.
So i'll leave Ubisoft some benefit of the doubt (they DO have a lot of work), and leave them the opportunity to answer.
But i also need cold hard facts, so i'll also verify by myself. I'm a systems engineer, i can do network trafic sniffing, so i'll do it, and post what i've found ....
Before ever thinking of banning cheaters, you must begin to detect them, by technical means.
How do you deal with cheaters is a commercial issue, which comes after, and which is easier and cheaper to ajust.
If things are done properly, you can automatically list cheaters, locations, dates, etc.
Then you send a batch of mails to the cheaters, saying :
"Dear *insert name*, you were caught cheating by our systems in *insert location* at *insert date*
We do now have the detection systems to ban cheaters.
Consider this a friendly warning.
The next time you'll get caught, you'll be banned for *insert duration* days
If you persist, you'll be banned permanently"
What is important is that there's hundred of thousands of cheaters, if you don't have the tools to detect and automate all this, you're just some random moron who doesn't have anything to do in the software industry.
Just to remind people, computers were conceived to automate job routines =)
Hmmm i'll verify by myself, then post the results.Originally Posted by Rdizz18 Go to original post
As i've said, i didn't have the time to verify for the moment, this is only observations, and observations are speculations.
But if my findings contradict their declarations, they'll have to explain their declarations against hard and scientific facts to the press ;-)
